Building a Bonus Room + SOUNDPROOF WALLS || Concrete Slab House Reno (Ep.11)

What happens here

After the main framing is complete, additional blocking and cripple studs are installed. Blocking involves adding horizontal pieces between vertical studs to provide extra rigidity and prevent the wall from wiggling, especially for tall walls. Cripple studs are shorter vertical studs that extend from the header to the top plate, or from the bottom plate to a window sill, supporting the load above or below an opening. The video also explains the roles of king studs (outermost vertical studs of an opening) and jack studs (inner studs supporting the header) in framing terminology.

header all right so you guys heard me throwing out all this terminology let's talk a little bit of you know framing terminology okay so these are studs everybody knows that that is their base plate that is the top plate on top now uh they the the outermost of whatever door opening will be called the king stud okay after that is the jack stud why because it's holding the header on top of it which leads me to the next one the portion over it that disperses the pressure from the top you know in school they teach you an earthquake go underneath the cover well it's a header right there that's the header um now the last part is the studs that go up here vertically they're called studs and um why they're called i don't know but it's all part of dispersing that energy so what we're doing is we're adding blocking to this with the 14 foot span here unless we had some blocking in there we don't want that wiggle so we're just pinching these in here make them nice and tight [Music]
