(14,224 characters)yeah this is 24. that's definitely not gonna be enough this is 24 inches wide this is not going to be enough that's not going to be enough it might be enough no way no way you're going to bet me that it's close no way [Music] uh hey welcome back for another episode in the kitchen here we're building cabinets today now not only do we have to build the cabinets for the island itself but we got a bunch of space over the existing cabinets and i can't imagine how many houses out there have this this opening is 24 inches tall but we're going to create them 22 inches tall and have a concealing trim piece and the reason why we're doing that approach is because the distance from this corner to that corner varies i believe a quarter of an inch if not a half an inch so that will allow for us to do any kind of concealing and trimming off let's go break down some plywood let's go while tyler is in the garage cutting up all the cabinets so we can start assembling them i'm seeing how many of my cabinets i could re-salvage that were existent here before looks like i really am gonna need just two cabinets to build the same exact distance as there but we're gonna do here so i'll jut down my numbers i'll give them to tyler he can start cutting them up in the meantime while he's finishing that up i'm gonna start running all my electrical that i had and all i'm doing is everything got labeled so i'm just kind of feeding it through make sure it's secure before i start patching up this pony wall and working on the cabinets very important you got to use these little staples to secure the cables to the studs that way nobody can ever yank it as they're trying to rewire something inside here [Music] all right so we got everything cut what we're doing is we're making the upper cabinets we have our 24 inches long and then i've determined 16 inches high and i'm just matching what was already there i'm using some brad nails just so it doesn't move when i pocket hole this so we're putting on these back panels kind of sit right like that it will actually go on the top and that's how we will attach the cabinet to the wall they are slick i like the approach too so they're just gonna go up there on top and then secure through the wall like this yep and then we'll be able to probably drive some screws through the lower cabinets and man they will be sturdy i will show you guys what i'm working with on the inside of the house the cabinet part uh that i'm handling here is this island here you guys saw me putting it all together i am probably going to put some liquid nails two by fours to the ground and attach these cabinets to the side just because usually traditionally when you build these things you would secure them through the sub flooring guess what we have sub flooring we have concrete slab so that's what we're going to do the project for today is to put in i'm calling them post they're not really post but they're going to be the long square box that are going to have this kind of built-in section that side is just aesthetics for this side it's going to conceal basically this utility access panel if you will you guys ever forget to breathe when you talk i only have to shim one of the cabinets which is really not bad usually i do a lot especially if it's a drywall [Music] got my pieces caught up here this one's going to be the awkward one for the utilities i'll do some pocket holes i've never used the pocket hole jig from armor kind of excited to see what it does it's a little fancy all right that's a pretty slick jig for pocket holes i'm not gonna lie [Music] this is one of the original mr builder courage and sweatshirts i designed it myself i even cut out letters put them on paper i don't know how to use photoshop back then you can't get this stuff you can get my brand new merch which is so much cooler than this links in the description below help support the channel go snag one now we can access our sanitary cream clean out drain so what i'm doing is i'm just adding a little extra reinforcement because this is a funky one right there's nothing connecting here so we just needed a little bit of more backbone so dropping this in what's great is it's staying away from all the wires and cables [Music] all right these post legs are up they look great this thing looks ginormous it's like i think four by ten feet right now i gotta clean up we're gonna record the podcast next door neighbors with irina minton pine make sure if you don't listen or haven't listened to it yet and you like podcast check it out all the links in the description [Music] oh hi little helper oh are you here to help me do cabinets yeah well we're gonna get it up super fast okay so as you can see we're able to salvage the majority of all the cabinets that are needed here uh this was part of the island so we're gonna reuse it it's not as deep but we needed one cabinet one 17 inch wide cabinet in order to have a 30 inch range so that being the case i just whipped a really quick one out i used the leftover plywood that i had created a nice simple box design probably end up using half a sheet of three quarter inch plywood now i will need to create a toe kick for it just because it's a simple design so we're going to take a four and a quarter inch leftover material create a little box that all this can sit on we can level it and we'll be ready for countertop [Music] measurements what's up what'd you get that's it and then for the okay and then i'm gonna still do the square box right over here so you can do one two is that going to make you love me all right coming right up a little bit ah dude right oh so alex built the big structure about around the island here we're going to cover it with a quarter inch plywood here and then we're going to trim it out with 1 by 2 select pine hey how much did you spend on the one by twos a lot how much i could look at the receipt it was probably easily close to 200 bucks but i got i got twice as many as i should have ah okay that's still a lot of money for today's wood oh dude yeah i'll go get the receipt it would be fun to look at because for just the one by two material was we four a nice bead of wood glue and i like to work from one end to the other so we don't end up with any bubbles in the middle that didn't get attached now we're going to do a nice trim feature i planned out so this seam with my quarter inch here is going to be covered up by my trim design so i'm going to start at the middle and work my way over to the sides [Music] [Applause] [Music] cabinet carcasses are done the stuff we extended on top we got to build the doors for them now the doors are going to be made out of uh poplar one by two this is like pine so i don't know why we've been slapping this it's right behind kyle here i got my dimensions written down here about the styles and rails styles are vertical rails are horizontal all right building the cabinet doors themselves i love using the router method they're just so precise there's no wiggler room number one bit that's already in our router is going to create for this transition on the rails and then the second bit that i'm holding in my hand that creates the channel the groove is going to be done on the insides of both styles and rails [Music] the first router bit is done for the corner pieces uh now we're gonna go router bit number two take this out put it in get it all lined up it's also very helpful that i'm using a backer piece it prevents tear-outs you'll be amazed how many pieces fly out here somebody recommend it to me first time trying works exceptionally well uh i'm riding a road jaw i think that i'm back in my bag now so i need that goal y'all got hits when he throwing the fastball just too quick for it i'd imagine you have some dope music to [Music] that i think what i'm going to do is just glue up the bottom part here and make sure it's square paint prime this and then when we're ready install the glass we'll slide this in place and do a nice glue up there i think that's our best option doors are done sanded them flush um keep in mind this is not secured we'll put our glass in there and put it on top i need to round over these edges just to keep it not only make it look nicer but also they tend to chip out if they're super sharp like that you can just take a piece of sandpaper too but i won't get fancy we are painting the kitchen cabinets kind of an off-white color and i'm actually cleaning them up and gonna get them ready for paint so the process i'm using i'm actually using a degreaser get off all that kitchen grime and get them ready for paint and now i'm using what's like a liquid sandpaper otherwise you're going to have to go through with actual sandpaper and break whatever surface coating they put on these so it'll accept the paint from there it will just absorb the paint and stick much much better here's a little pro tip instead of buying a billion those little pyramid triangles you could put stuff on so it doesn't smudge as you're painting you can just rip on your table saw these little pyramids at 45 degrees on both sides and then you could set your doors on top so therefore when we need to flip it over you're not putting this you know not fully cured piece on the wood and then not damaging this way it's just a light fine line that usually you get away with [Music] got basically interior exterior primer gonna put it in here spin it up with a little bit of water use a little strainer put it over and pour it in and we'll see how it cooks [Music] the sprayer the flexo 5000 spraying really well nice even coat shooting really well i like the fine finish smaller one it's got a good control about six inch spray kush [Music] only end up using half of a gallon which is incredible tomorrow after let it sit let it cure overnight we're gonna start shooting some paint [Music] hey you just couldn't sleep huh you couldn't sleep okay we'll be in daddy daycare today we'll build together we are improvising uh painting perfect opportunity to bring a baby with you and paint the uh the edges here rolling it on instead of shooting it just goes to be a lot easier you gotta make sure you put the primer on so it doesn't kind of peel off of the veneer thank god tyler is helping me and spraying the rest of the cabinets we'll get us knocked out in no time and i'll start looking really nice [Music] one of my favorite today uh products i'm using is from sharon williams it's uh it's a water-based acrylic alkyd and the way they explain to me is basically it's an oil-based particle paint which is tough surrounded by a water-based molecule which is easy to dilute with water and thin it out and shoots it so that when the water evaporates and dries out the oil stays and the water is gone extremely durable we definitely picked a good day to spray it's uh well now it stopped for like a second but like 20 mile an hour winds so getting a lot of these little bits and pieces falling from trees off but we're getting through it all right [Music] all right so here's the annoying part again the wind is getting all these little pieces of from the trees on here so instead of trying to pick it out the paint's drying pretty quickly the approach is going to let it dry and then just kind of like that actually moves it away without damaging our paint this is annoying man don't paint under a tree doing a little relocation we got to think smarter here get away from these crazy particles from trees are they called particles what are they called plants particle particles [Applause] [Music] so i got to get the filler pieces up there you can use ca glue and an activator get our miters together once it dries then we can install it and brad nailer from the bottom up 36x72 right here that's definitely not going to be enough 36 inches wide this is 24 inches wide this is not going to be enough that's not going to be enough that might be enough no way no way you're gonna bet me that it's close no way no way if you would have had 36 you would have been there perfect for that easy options to return okay so they sent me the wrong size sheet uh but i'm gonna get that all squared away i'm gonna at least use up what i have right now the nice thing is on this material it's frosted glass plexiglas it has a wrapper on both sides so while we're working on it we're not scratching it we're going to use our table saw make our cuts fortunately like our plan was we just didn't glue one side we'll slide it in this will be the top side add a little bit of silicone to hold it in place a little ca glue or wood glue clamp it in place and then she should be ready to install [Music] [Applause] [Music] i've never said this about plexiglas before but that's that's one sexy piece of plexiglass okay so we have a one of three drawers that are from this kitchen that we get to reuse the mrs wants to do something unique we're gonna use these brass hardwares and she wants them spaced out a little weird in my mind but i'm sure it'll look great i'm going to try something out true position tools came out with the professional cabinet hardware jig we're going to give this a go and see how she works [Music] hey thanks so much for sticking around watching another one of my videos guys this was a lot of fun doing the cabinets troubleshooting fixing problems just that's all it is the nice thing is we didn't have to spend a ton of money doing new cabinets make sure you tune in for the next episode where we start handling the
