3 Ways to Build Floating Shelves
What happens here
Begin by cutting the 1x6 boards to the specified dimensions: the top and bottom pieces to 7 inches by 72 inches, the side pieces to 1 1/2 inches by 7 inches (as corrected), and the front piece to 3 inches by 72 inches. Use a table saw to rip the larger boards to the correct width (e.g., 7 inches from a 1x8 or similar for the top/bottom). Then, apply wood glue (Titebond II) generously along the edges where pieces will join. Use a finger or a silicone brush to spread the glue evenly. Attach the front and side pieces to the top and bottom pieces using a brad nailer. For bowed or bent wood, use clamps to hold pieces together tightly while the glue sets and brad nails are applied.
Goal: Assemble the intermediate shelf box frame.
