3 Ways to Build Floating Shelves
What happens here
Cut the maple plywood sheets into the various components of the shelf using the table saw, ensuring all edges are mitered at 45 degrees. Next, lay out the cut pieces on a workbench, aligning the mitered edges. Use painter's tape to tape the seams of the outside surfaces together. This allows you to 'roll' the pieces up into the box shape. Apply wood glue to the mitered edges on the inside of the taped assembly. Then, use a brad nailer to secure the joints while the glue dries, making sure the nails go through the mitered edges to hold the shape firmly. Apply wood glue and use brad nails to add the top of the shelf, creating a hollow box structure.
Goal: Assemble the advanced floating shelf using mitered joints.
