Clean Mower Deck (Blowing and Washing) — Clean and Store Mower
Part of project
Lawn Mowing · Step 5 of 5
In this video
After every mowing session, use a leaf blower to clear grass clippings from the top of your mower deck and around the engine (as shown at 9:19-9:29). This prevents grass from accumulating and causing rust. Additionally, attach a hose to the wash port on your mower deck (visible at 9:48). Turn on the water, start the tractor, engage the blades, and let it run for 3-5 minutes. Make sure the deck is in its lowest position. This wash port system helps remove grass clippings from the underside of the deck, although it may not be perfect. The video demonstrates this process at 10:37-11:02. This routine cleaning prevents grass buildup, which can accelerate rusting of the deck.
