Before installing the new hinge, examine its construction. Hinges typically have a pin that connects the two leaves, with one end often capped (the 'top') and the other end flush or showing a hole. Ensure you install the hinge with the top of the pin pointing upward. Crucially, test the hinge's closure direction: it should only fold completely in one direction. Orient the hinge so that this 'closed' direction allows the door to shut fully. Installing it incorrectly will cause the door to stop short and not close properly.
