If you need to completely separate the hinge from the cabinet door (e.g., for painting the door or replacing the hinge itself), observe how the hinge is attached to the door. For 'Blum Inserta' type hinges, which are often tool-free, simply open the little 'flappy door part' or cover on the hinge cup that's embedded in the door. This will release the hinge from the door. For other types, there will typically be two screws holding the hinge cup to the door. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws.
