Install Treads and Risers — Install Treads
Part of project
Stair Tread Installation · Step 5 of 7
In this video
Cut the treads (the horizontal walking surface) and risers (the vertical panels) to the exact dimensions required for each step. Precision is key to a snug fit. Apply construction adhesive, commonly referred to as 'glue,' to the top of the stringers and the back of the riser where it meets the stringer. This adhesive helps prevent squeaks and adds significant structural strength. Then, carefully install each riser, followed by its corresponding tread. Secure both with appropriate fasteners, such as finish nails or screws, ensuring they are flush and level.
