We didn't even know she was pregnant! CUTE SURPRISE ON THE FARM TODAY!

What happens here

After moving the herd, the farmer locates the new calf, which is initially lying down. Upon his approach, the calf quickly jumps up and runs a short distance, demonstrating a natural defense mechanism. The farmer gently pets the calf and observes its mother, noting her 'grunting' noise, which he identifies as her distinctive sound. The calf soon approaches its mother and begins to nurse.

Goal: Monitor the health and bonding of the new calf and its mother

let's go up here and check him out hey girl what you doing here is our newest member of the stoney ridge farm hey little fella now he'll lay still here you go little fella how pretty are you look at how pretty you see that see how he jumped up and ran that's kind of the defense mechanism they'll stay still until they feel threatened and then they'll take off so he's looking good he's a healthy little bull any cute so what we want to see is mother and son interacting here and we want to also see nursing so that's what we look for when we first have our newest babies we need to make sure they're pooping and peeing and nursing just kind of like people each cow has its own distinctive little noise and this is mama right here she kind of makes a grunting noise mama and baby are very well bonded this is a healthy little calf i must say he's probably around the 60 to 70 pound mark mama seems to be a good mama she's taking good care of them now it's normal for the baby calves to be able to go underneath the fence right here the poly fence and that's okay they'll learn it as you can see right now that calf is learning there's no power on the poly fence so it's probably shouldn't be learning like that so you guys are seeing a little bit of the socialization process this young calf right here will kind of socialize in with the herd they just kind of become a family you can see how another cow is kind of licking the baby like i said they all kind of become a bit of a family here calf is nursing just like it should be mama will try and get between me and the cow or the calf most any time she can so that's that preventing predator's instinct when you have a herd of cows like this you can see the other cows have gotten in between me and the baby too and you've got a herd like this they kind of all stick together they kind of all protect each other really cool [Music] do okay [Music]
