hi chris thanks for having me back on your channel um the views on the last video were um pretty mental from my point of view as a starting youtuber to see that many hits in however long it was was brilliant so i'm back for another video um to give you an idea of what this video is about it's five tips that can help you being doing painting decorating diy and they're just really easy tips just to sort of help you along the way so my first tip that's going to help you out is when you're opening a paint tin a lot of people struggle with it they try and use a screwdriver or a filling blade which they end up snapping the one thing that i use is a teaspoon simple as that um it's just such a good angle to get under the lid pop it open um if you can drill a little hole in the end put it on your key ring anything like that i always have one in my pocket when i'm decorating they are perfect for opening tins so my second tip um is another one another simple one um so when i use a silicon gun like that i've got some cork in there at the moment um when you're using it obviously it's all good when you come to storing it especially with silicon when it dries in the tip it's well almost impossible to get out um so to try and keep it moist and to try and keep it so that it won't go dry i put a small screw in the end of it um and if you've been on my instagram you'll see posts like this that i put up and all you do is screw it into the end like that stops it drying out and then all you need to do is unscrew it for the next time you need it and it's it's ready to go next tip is about sandpaper so as a decorator i use a lot of this stuff and it comes in big rolls like this if you go to your local hardware store you probably get it in in little sheets um and what i see a lot of diys doing let me just tear a bit off here what i see a lot of diys doing is they've got the sandpaper like that in their hand and it's really really hard to grip onto when they're sanding down the wall um a lot of people use sanded blocks which are great if you've got one use that as perfect if you haven't you just want to use it by hand what i would say is fold it into thirds so one fold two fold and then you've got one side another side and then sandpaper onto paper so that it stops it slipping about so if you were to just fold it in half see it's sliding about which makes it really painful and annoying on the wall so if you fold it to third you've got abrasion on all sides and then you've also got three sides to sand so when you open it up just fold that bit over and there you go nice easy tip okay so fourth tip is about new brushes um i don't tend to get that many new brushes because i look after my brushes and i try and use the most i can get the best i can out of them and unfortunately sometimes they come to the end of the road so when i do get a new brush these are the picasso blaze really good brush i don't know if they're in the states yet but in the uk these are a really really good brush and i know they've got a really good reputation i've been using them quite a while now and i'd highly rate getting some so they come with obviously a protector so the idea behind this tip is when you're using a new brush and you're painting the walls um bristles will come out any brush you can name me any brush in the world best brush the most expensive brush bristles will fall out of a new brush after a while after a few weeks or months of using them they tend to slow down on bristles coming out but bristles will come out new brushes it's just it's just a thing that happens so if you do get a new brush bristles get on the wall in the paint and you'll see it as you're brushing away sorry i haven't got an example for this but when you're brushing away you'll see one come out and it'll be laying in the paint now if you try and pick it off your fingers or anything like that it's really hard to do and it makes a mess of the wall um it's just a painful process really so my best tip for getting a bristle off the wall um is to simply push the paintbrush into the wall where the bristle is the bristle will come off at the end of the paintbrush pick it out you can carry on it's really quick way to do it and i know when i got told that tip it saved me a lot of bother when i'm painting a wall so final tip when you're painting somewhere where there's been a stain whether it's water damage or a kitchen where you've got oil splatters and any kind of stain felt tip on the wall markers permanent marks on the wall um they obviously come through emulsion paint water-based paint especially and they're really hard to get rid of you can go to your hardware store and pick up stain blockers there's loads of different brands in england there's polycell zinter bin all those kind of stain blocks and they're quite expensive my tip is that normally as a decorator i'd have a tin of oil based undercoat on the van this is obviously for when i'm undercoating and i keep it on the van because that itself is a really really good stain block and it's obviously a lot cheaper than your normal stain block and if you are decorating a house and you do come to undercoat these curtains you'll have a tin of undercoat anyway so if you do find a water stain on the ceiling a mold stain felt tip like i said permanent marks on the wall you'll have to obviously wait a couple of hours for it to dry properly because it's oil-based but it saves you going out to the hardware shop or your local diy shop and buying a new load of paint that you don't need because obviously you're not going to use a big tin of stain block on one small stain so um there you go so again thanks for having me on your channel chris um hopefully we'll get as many hits you did
