What happens here

This project details how to repair a damaged power cord on a Dyson vacuum cleaner using solder and seal connectors, heat shrink tubing, and electrical tape. The process involves cutting away the damaged section, preparing the internal wires, connecting them with heat-activated solder connectors, sealing these connections with heat shrink, and finally wrapping the entire repair with electrical tape for added durability and insulation.

hey folks thatfixitguy here and today we're gonna be fixing the cord on this dyson vacuum cleaner this was given to us used by a friend and it already had a repair going on with the cord well as you can see that repair broke so come along let's get to fixing [Music] so i got a whole another project going on right here that's going to be awesome but for now we've got to go to right here okay we've got those cool splices that my brother-in-law gave me the ones where you just use a lighter or a little heat gun and get these hooked up it'll melt the lead we're gonna hook these up this is gonna work out great and then i think for the top one to cover it back up instead of using electrical tape you know i got some of this heat shrink um half inch i thought i'd grab three eighths man i swore that i pulled this out of the 3 8 pile but whatever it's gonna work we're gonna make it work right all right let's see what we got here let's see what these guys try to do here it looks like they just simply tried to twist it there was not really too much else going on there the camera all bumped up all right so man i guess that's how we ended up doing that was just twisting these two together and twisting all of it together and making it work find good cord here we gotta go back a little bit this looks damaged damaged something looks good looks good from there on let's just give that a snip right down there okay so the first thing you want to do after you cut this put your shrink wrap on so we've got the ends clipped off here and what we're going to end up doing is we're going to be using these solder and seal connectors my brother-in-law got me a little while back but because we've gotta connect those we're gonna be using these bigger ones today and this will help us with our seals i'll show you we're talking about our connection is actually gonna be a little bit bulkier than the size of this wire so we're going to want some play in there because it will make it a little bit bigger i'll show you how we're going to do this so we'll take this i like to just measure a little bit past that because we want to be able to slide these on that'd be great so a little bit of room here you want to be gentle when you're making that slit you don't want to cut into your wire but you also need to be deep enough to get down in there don't cut your wire give it a clip towards the back side you don't want to cut your wire but you want to get all that stuff out of your way right so right away we can just take these pop these over that and you know you're going to have enough wire to do your connection take this just split that in half let's start with the black one leave that right like that so we put the y into each other pinch both sides together and down and then twist in opposite directions all right and just fold it on to itself and just keep folding until it ends up looking like so slap that over that it's going to be good to rock and roll take this one same thing so once you get them together they're going to stay together like that just kind of pull them tight and start twisting them opposite directions get that rolling right there grab our lighter start going over the whole thing the lighter is going to create a little bit of a soot it's no problem it wipes off just keep moving it and it's all going to seal together so if we just give it a second and let it cool down you can see that all that lead has melted in there and it's got these nice and secured up you can wipe some of that soot away you can see totally a little city let that cool down for a sec so now that's all cooled down we'll just pour our sleeve over it and now we're gonna go ahead and hit it with the heat gun all right so there we go it's nice and shrink wrapped it's hooked up now that seal is good the only thing is i mean this size i think it didn't tighten as tight as it could have or should have and then it also i need a little bit longer piece like this is the size they had at the store of course i got the wrong size getting half inch i thought i was getting three eighths but it's okay i think i'm just gonna we're just gonna take some of this super 33 i mean it doesn't necessarily look the prettiest but you know what just make it work and let's try her out i'm pretty positive that ain't going nowhere that is a sound little fix and this dyson vacuum should last us a little bit longer now all right folks so there we go that is the repair that i alright folks so there we go that was fixing the cord on this dyson vacuum cleaner right dyson makes a quality product it's a bummer that that broke but it was an easy repair we got it hooked up and this is going to last us still a lot longer i really hope you folks are enjoying the videos please subscribe check us out over on facebook follow us there we're just trying to do good things help people out where we can thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
