The Cat dies on the job #frickin

What happens here

The skid steer is lifted using jacks and placed on sturdy blocks, providing enough clearance to work on the tracks. The operator then begins the process of removing the right-side track. This involves releasing the tension on the track adjuster. He places a plastic bag around the grease zerk before loosening it, as grease will squirt out under pressure. The track is then carefully pried off using a combination of a large metal mat and a second skid steer with forks, which acts as a lever and support. This method, described as a 'hybridized track handler,' allows for quick and efficient track removal by leveraging the track off the rollers.

Goal: Remove the right-side track to access internal components.

Tools and materials

  • Grease Zerk — Releasing track tension
  • Jacks — Lifting the skid steer
  • Metal Mat Track Handler — Aiding in track removal
  • Plastic Bag — Catching excess grease

I got the machine up on some blocks right now so I can start taking off this right side track and go ahead and start with taking this bolt off here all right so now that we're inside the little access cover there I like to take a bag and put that in here because as the grease squirts out it just goes right into the bag and you can grab the bag and pull it out it's easier to clean it up so then this right the Greaser right here you want to go one full turnaround no more so I'll just pop it Loose here [Music] out into the bag now for some reason another it seems like we're always handling tracks whether that's to change them out seasonally to go from dirt to snow tracks or just to do repairs and maintenance like you see us doing here we use a pro a process called the track Handler and it's kind of expensive and what the track Handler it is it's a system where you get a big giant reinforced mat a huge monster crowbar and then a ratchet strap of some sort and that's supposed to help you take it all off but we use their own hybridized version where we just use the mat by itself and a set of forks on a skid loader and we can get the process down to as little as five minutes to pop a track off and about another five minutes to pop it back on see that I mean it's almost spotless inside of there well I apologize for not catching much footage because I got got my head down and I started working and cranking and maybe now you can see that worn down put it right there that's where it's leaking from actually leaked off the back of this hose so I already got that one disconnected I had to disconnect a few back there to be able to get more clearance to get that one off I also removed I believe that might be uh air pulling air I'm not 100 sure um to this pump here you can see down here that's where the other connection was and boy was that buried under about a foot of dirt I couldn't believe how much dirt was actually
