What happens here
Prepare the repaired subfloor for tiling by first mixing thin-set mortar. Apply a layer of mortar to the subfloor. Lay cement board sheets over the mortar, ensuring complete coverage and securing them with specialized cement board screws. This provides a stable, waterproof, and crack-resistant base for the tiles. Once the cement board is down, apply another layer of thin-set mortar using a notched trowel. Carefully lay the chosen floor tiles, using tile leveling kits to ensure an even surface and consistent spacing between tiles. The tiles are installed from a straight edge to ensure alignment. Allow the mortar to cure overnight before proceeding to grouting.
Goal: Install cement board as an underlayment for the floor, securing it with mortar and specialized screws. Lay the new floor tiles, ensuring they are level and properly spaced.
