Power Company Comes WHAT A MESS!

What happens here

After the cable is laid, the trench needs to be backfilled. Use the mini-excavator to carefully push the excavated dirt back into the trench. It's crucial not to dump large rocks or heavy debris directly onto the power line, as this can damage the sheathing. For aesthetic and safety reasons, the area will eventually be graded smooth, with topsoil added and grass seeded, potentially resembling a 'golf course' finish. The video also suggests considering adding 'caution tape' above the cable during backfilling to provide a visual warning for future digging, if permitted by the utility.

Goal: Bury the power cable and restore the ground surface.

Tools and materials

  • Kubota KX057-4 Mini-Excavator Kubota — Pushing dirt back into the trench and initial grading
  • TR3 Rake — Smoothing and final grading of the backfilled area
  • Tractor John Deere — Pulling the TR3 rake for grading
  • Caution Tape — Marking the location of the buried power line for future reference
  • Grass Seed — Planting over the backfilled trench for erosion control and aesthetics
  • Straw — Covering newly seeded areas to protect from erosion and aid germination
  • Topsoil — Finishing the graded area for planting
