Pinhole Leak Flooded the Basement!
What happens here
A new Legend Valve quarter-turn ball valve is threaded onto the remaining copper pipe where the old gate valve was removed. To ensure a watertight seal, Blue Monster thread seal tape (3 wraps) and Hercules MegaLock Multi-Purpose Thread Sealant (pipe dope) are applied to the threads. The valve is tightened using two Knipex Pliers Wrenches, being careful not to over-tighten or mar the valve. The handle of the ball valve is oriented in the direction of water flow when open. After installation, the main water supply is slowly reopened, and an open sink faucet is used to bleed air and check for leaks in the new connection.
Goal: Replace the old gate valve with a reliable, new quarter-turn ball valve.
