Painting Trim Using Lacquer Toner. FISHEYE RESOLVED!

What happens here

The video begins with an introduction to the project, which focuses on transforming existing wood trim. The trim is currently a lighter, golden-oak-like stained and lacquered finish. The goal is to change this to a dark espresso color without painting it opaque, allowing the wood grain to remain visible. To achieve this, a product called 'toner lacquer' (also referred to as 'toners') is used. Toner lacquer is essentially wood stain mixed directly into lacquer. The custom espresso color was developed by taking a sample of the existing trim to a local cabinet shop that specializes in mixing pigmented lacquers. They then added toner to clear lacquer and sprayed it onto the sample until the desired espresso color and translucency were achieved.

Goal: This step introduces the project, which involves changing the color of existing stained and lacquered wood trim using a product called 'toner lacquer'. The speaker explains what toner lacquer is and how the custom espresso color was developed.
