What happens here

This project provides a basic introduction to using a multimeter for common household and automotive troubleshooting tasks. It covers how to properly connect the test leads, measure AC and DC voltage, check electrical frequency (Hertz), measure resistance (Ohms), perform a continuity test, and even measure temperature, highlighting that mastering these fundamental functions is sufficient for most DIY electrical checks.

Multimeter basics everyone should know. Let's get after it. First things first, hooking up your leads. Your black goes into your common. And your red lead goes right here into your volts, your ohms, your hertz, your temperature, everything else. This 10 amp port is designed for higher current measurements, which we'll get into in a future video. First one, volt. If you go down to select, you can choose between AC or DC. Right now we're in AC. As you can see, we're getting 120 volts. That's your standard outlet. And now we'll do direct current for cars, batteries, stuff like that. You can see this battery reads 20 volts. Next up is hertz. And hertz measures frequency. Normal household power operates at 60 hertz. You can see that's 60 hertz. Ohms measure resistance. With the probes apart, there is no path. If I go ahead and touch them together, there's almost no resistance, and it's going to read close to zero. Continuity uses the same basic idea. This is good for testing things like wire and fuses. Continuity checks whether there's a complete electrical path. If your wire is broken or your fuse is blown, you won't hear the beep at all. And some meters can even tell me if my beer is cold. Change it to Fahrenheit. Stick in the probe. 40°. I might have to go look at my fridge. You don't need to know every setting to start using your multimeter. Learn these basic functions and you can troubleshoot a ton of stuff around the house and even on your car. Anyways, I'm going to go drink a beer. I'll catch you guys later. Peace.
