Most Decks Are Over Complicated. (Do This, It's Easier)

What happens here

With the post bases secured, position the main support beams (6x10s) onto the posts. The beams are 20 feet long and will be seamed together to cover the 30-foot width of the deck. Use appropriate Simpson Strong-Tie hardware, specifically angle brackets and structural screws, to connect the beams to the posts and to each other where they seam. Use a circular saw to make any necessary cuts to the beams for precise fitting.

Goal: Install and secure the primary support beams for the deck frame

Tools and materials

  • 6x10 Beams — The main horizontal structural members of the deck
  • Circular Saw Ryobi — Cutting beams to length for precise fitting
  • Impact Driver Ryobi — Driving structural screws
  • Simpson Strong-Tie Hardware — Securing beams to posts and to each other

That's sexy. All right, so we're back with our beams here. Like promised, 6x10. I got four of them. Yeah, I got four of them. In ideal world, I would love to have a nice 30ft long one so it could just sit. Uh but instead, we have to kind of seam them together, which is fine cuz we're going to use the appropriate hardware and brackets and stuff. All that work for a stupid cut. I should have brought my chainsaw. Let's beautify this beam with the hardware. One thing you will notice if you have eyes, no disrespect to people who don't have eyes, is that there's not enough uh posts to grab the bottom. But the cool thing about this system from Simpson, yeah, Simpson Strong Kai, is that these holes line up with the the anchors. So, I'm able to take these bolts out, connect it through there, and then connect it through here. And and what that will do is keep this beam from moving. It's one with the land. Look at these cute little guys. What's cool about them is they have a centering mechanism in it, so it just hugs in place and it doesn't go anywhere, nowhere. At this point, we're just adding jewelry to a bunch of rough saw lumber and I love it. Here comes the fun part. We got
