Is Your Sump Pump Failing? How to Replace It Yourself (Save Money!)
What happens here
Carefully connect the existing discharge pipe (which includes a check valve) to the discharge port of the new sump pump, hand-tightening it first, then using tongue-and-groove pliers to fully tighten the connection for a leak-free seal. Slowly lower the new sump pump, with the attached discharge pipe, into the sump pit, ensuring it sits flat at the bottom. Adjust the float switch on the side of the pump so it can move freely without obstruction, securing its position with a zip tie or clip to the discharge pipe, if necessary, to ensure it activates and deactivates the pump at the correct water levels.
Goal: Connect the existing discharge pipe to the new sump pump, lower the unit into the pit, and adjust the float switch for proper operation.
