Is Your Sump Pump Failing? How to Replace It Yourself (Save Money!)
What happens here
Place a yellow submersible utility pump into the sump pit to remove the remaining water. Once the pit is largely empty, unplug the old sump pump from the electrical outlet. Disconnect the old discharge pipe by twisting and pulling it from the sump pump's discharge port. The pipe may be corroded or stuck, requiring some force. Carefully lift the entire old sump pump assembly out of the pit, ensuring not to damage any surrounding structures or electrical wiring.
Goal: Use a submersible utility pump to completely empty the sump pit and then carefully remove the old, corroded sump pump and its discharge pipe.
