What happens here

This video demonstrates the use of traditional Japanese-style woodworking marking tools, specifically a marking knife and a marking gauge, for creating highly accurate and fine layout lines on wood, which is crucial for precise joinery. It does not cover precise depth control using a drill press as initially requested. The presenter showcases the tools' design, technique for use, and advantages over pencil marking.

I feel like I'm going to want to start carrying around a marking knife. >> So, this is based on a very traditional Japanese folding knife called a Higon noami. And what we did was we made one with a marking knife blade in it rather than a traditional double bevel pocket knife blade. I am a firm believer of laying out with a marking knife. And I've been using marking knives forever. That's how you get your most accurate layout lines. But I fell in love with this style of pocket knife and I thought it'd be awesome to create a pocketk knife that has a marking knife in it. So, it's laminated blue paper steel, Japanese steel, so it's very tough. Hold this edge for a long time. And because it's a single bevel, you can get it right next to your square and it'll strike a nice square, straight line, >> very fine, beautiful line. And this is a marking gauge. So, if you want a continuous reference edge along something, so maybe your dovetail shoulder line or your motor shoulder line, you can use a marking gauge. And you hold it a little bit differently than a western gauge. Kind of between your fingers, >> okay? Okay. Put your thumb on the blade and it becomes very very stable and you can strike a really nice line with that as well. >> Awesome. >> Really nice hard Japanese steel. So once you get it sharp stays sharp for a very long time and it's just a really great layout tool. Anytime you need a marking gauge. >> I'm going to want to start carrying around a marking knife. Like this is one of my favorite Sharpie anymore. Like that's awesome dude. Thank you so much Chris. Absolutely. Where can we get these at? You can get these at temple toolco.com.
