How to replace a garbage disposal STEP by STEP instruction!
What happens here
With the sink flange installed, turn your attention to the new disposal unit. Begin by removing the small Phillips head screw and cover plate from the bottom of the disposal to access the electrical wiring compartment. Pull out the pre-installed internal white and yellow wires. Take your new electrical cord and prepare the ends by twisting the strands clockwise (righty-tighty) if they are frayed. Insert the ground wire (green) into the provided eyelet. Now, take the electrical adapter (conduit fitting) that comes with the electrical cord kit. Remove the nut from the adapter, discarding the nut as it is not needed for this application. Feed the electrical cord through the adapter and insert the adapter into the electrical opening on the bottom of the disposal. Use channel locks to tighten the adapter securely onto the disposal. Inside the compartment, connect the ground wire from the electrical cord to the green ground screw on the disposal. Then, use wire nuts to connect the black wire from the cord to the black internal wire, and the white wire from the cord to the white internal wire. Ensure these connections are tight by turning the wire nuts clockwise until they no longer turn. Once the wiring is secure, push the wires neatly back into the compartment and replace the cover plate. Next, locate the dishwasher knockout plug on the side of the disposal. Use a flathead screwdriver and channel locks (or a hammer) to tap out this plug. Be sure to retrieve the small plastic piece that falls into the grinding chamber, as it can stop up the disposal. Finally, replace the black rubber splash guard on top of the disposal.
Goal: Connect the electrical cord and prepare the dishwasher drain opening
