(19,999 characters)hey folks that fix it guy here today we're going to be putting a kitchen back together um you know i have a couple friends that just had a new countertop installed in their house they had a new under mount sink installed and so they wanted to put a new faucet and reinstall their old garbage disposal so i'll show you that whole process and the tools needed for it this is the new quartz countertop that just got installed with the new stainless steel sink this is where we'll be installing the disposal today and this is where the single hole faucet is going to go we're going to spend most of our time underneath the sink here that is an abs trap that doing a measurement is actually not gonna fit to that hole right there so we're gonna cut that elbow off right there after the trap and we're gonna that's where we're gonna put our inch and a half trap adapter and we'll run tubular from there so for this job we're gonna end up using a inch and a half p-trap this p-trap is it's made out of plastic they are a lot cheaper than buying and putting a brass p trap in it's the tubular that a lot of people use these days the extension tube made out of the same thing just in case we need a little bit longer of a setup for the things we got going and we're gonna need a abs trap adapter because we're gonna end up having to cut the trap arm a little bit actually fit inch and a half and inch and a quarter um the same as this this actually adapts to inch and a quarter it'll adapt down there's a little washer in there to do that um some standard plumbing tools we're looking at a couple different size caress and wrenches i can tell you personally these two this dewalt two pack set is one of my favorites i mean the how wide this little wrench opens up it just has worked very well for me to get into some tight spaces and be able to have a wrench opens that wide is wonderful um all sizes of channel locks these things man they are awesome like i don't know that there's any other tool like this at some point i'm gonna end up reviewing um a lot of the tools that i use because time tested and true i have went through some tools this actually came in a kit the six in one with these channel locks which is great um i buy these bad boys at harbor freight they come in a set about 10 bucks but i can tell you being a solid core and i'm able to pound on that like it is awesome these things are they really are beasts man i have owned a set of these i've lost some tools in my time but i've owned a set of these on several different occasions this this eight inch easy stroke pipe saw it is i don't know i call it the ginsu this thing cuts through pvc like butter or abs like butter and so this is what we're going to be using today to do a little quick saw like i can pull out the oscillating tool and it's not going to take so much time but these things are just so awesome and it works great every time it's really quick able to be in a tight space works awesome we're going to end up using some medium black abs cement this stuff will help glue this inch and a half trap adapter right here on and we're going to need some plumber's putty for that to put the garbage disposal ring onto the sink mega lock it's multi-purpose thread sealant for metal or plastic this stuff kevlar woven it is money it's my favorite stuff like you can see this cans beat up i've had it for a long time like i said my tools have been stolen a couple times if they hadn't been stolen i would still have the same can of mega lock i bought 10 years ago i mean because i don't use a lot of it like you don't use a lot at a time but man a little bit of this stuff really does help and it's awesome okay so i found the old sink out in the garage um the faucet's still in great shape but he says he's gonna sell it they're looking for something a little bit different but what we're looking for because they went from a two-hole sink is what this is and they went to a one hole sink we just need this right here we need the disposal ring off of this to put on the new sink so for taking this off i like to use a bigger flathead screwdriver it's a little bit bigger than what the six and one has in it and we're going to just unscrew that and pop this ring off we just unscrew each one of these bolts and then there's a little retainer clip in here that if you run your finger around it you're going to find an edge what i do then is i just take my screwdriver and i pry it there and i just pop that ring right out that allows everything to come off [Music] you're gonna have to probably pry that up a little bit too just to get the old plumber's putty off [Music] don't worry about that it's all clean up plumber's putty's easy so then the top of that just kind of fell right out so we'll grab that and now what you have is just something that you're going to need to clean up just to get all this junk off from around here all i do is take a paper towel my finger and i just kind of go around it now sometimes it's a little harder than that and you might have to use your screwdriver a little bit but for the most part it usually just comes off pretty good for the sake of using it it's right there let's just get all that nasty off of there now that we have the disposal ring all hooked up we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna put the disposal ring on okay well there's no really good place to put any camera equipment around here i am not used to any of this either but we are making some stuff happen um first thing we're going to do is we're actually going to take this disposal ring and we're going to put some plumber's putty on it so we're going to grab this you want a good little chunk probably about the size of a ball in the palm of your hand just a little ball um i don't know like one of those extra like one of those extra large bouncy balls you used to get in one of those red machines as a kid like that you only had for a couple minutes because you got out to the parking lot and freaking bounce it so hard that it left um about that size that's what we're looking for um and we'll just take that and act like i'm hanging out with my toddler and rolling out some play-doh and just kind of make a snake you want it to be um a little bit skinnier than your pinky i mean i guess if you have small pinkies it i don't know one of the fat pencil from school right like something that size and you just go around the whole thing and then i usually you go around it usually have a little bit of something there left and i just pop that off and throw her back in and just kind of go around and work it work it in the whole way just kind of make sure it stays around the whole thing and it's kind of like pounding out pizza dough or something you know you just make it a crust let's call it make it a crust like just hooking up pizza crust so you get around there and i'm not good at making pies so let's call pizza get all that hooked up and then we stick it through the top of the sink all right so this has some lettering on it you definitely want to make sure that's lined up i will be the first to tell you if you've never heard it i have certainly had to go to somebody's house because the lettering was not lined up correctly i don't know if it was me or somebody else that did it but i've certainly had to do that so that looks good you want to make sure it stays in place this can certainly get tricky putting this in whenever you're by yourself you got it pushed down but you're going to end up applying some pressure from the bottom so i just usually take my big tub of plumber's putty and i'll stick that on top so this little clip right here it has a little bevel on it before we do anything else i like to start out by making that straight and even just that little bit makes a world of difference when putting this together we start out with the paper ring and then this ring and then this ring right here and this is how it assembles back together and the best way to do this honestly is going to be to lay down on your back and facing up to it okay so now that we're under here just trying to get a little bit better angle to show you actually how to to do this so if you have that little gap you just want to bring those out pull it out just a little bit and get that to where it gives you just enough play you want to make sure that all these bolts are loose enough to where this tension ring is all the way down and then i like to take this ring and with my left thumb and finger put the left side of it in place then with my left pinky i like to push the back up and just kind of hold it and then wrap the rest of it the rest the way around with your right hand and it just clips right in place super simple really quick if you don't get it the first time don't worry about it because it is it is hard at times especially when you don't have any weight on top of it um you know if you could have somebody hold it down that's ideal and then you just take your flat head screwdriver again and tighten these up [Music] and i like to go even with it every couple of turns so every three or four turns just go to the next one something pretty good you'll see a ring of plumber's putty right up there it's when around the whole thing evenly we remove the plumber's putty that just pulls right out of there and then i like to just grab the flat head screwdriver again and just go around the whole thing one time and good to go all right so this is the faucet we're going to be installing today now that we've got the disposal ring in we're going to put the faucet in because it's going to be a lot easier to do that before we put the disposal on and put the drain in so we're looking at a delta berkeley a nice one-hole faucet comes with a soap dispenser they're not wanting to use that it's got a couple of cool features here it's got three sprays a shield spray which looks like it's blowing a glass or something awesome a regular stream and then a sprayer feature it's got a magnet tight docking i don't know man every time i hear the word docking all i think about is star track and it's a weird thing um it says it fits one two three or four whole sinks so we're gonna go ahead and we're just gonna mop this bad boy open real quick the instructions they say you're gonna need an eighth inch allen wrench a bucket and crescent wrench and some silicone okay so the supply lines are long enough and we're going to be able to attach those just directly to the angle stops first thing we're going to do is we're going to take this little seal right here that comes with this and we are going to peel that off make sure this piece there's a weird little tab on here always make sure that comes off there and then we are going to put this around through here this goes through right here through there and it actually just goes right on here an eye then just to rip that piece off the other pieces come off with it this piece just kind of goes right there all right so with this foam seal with the seal that is there we're actually going to take some silicone because that's what it calls for and we're going to put some silicone on it and then we're going to put it down in place whenever you end up doing a silicone seal like this you're going to want to just wipe it off quickly use some mineral spirits something just to make sure that it doesn't leave a bunch of residue around the hole leave the plastic on the pull down and just let that so you don't scratch it or anything flip this around hold it upside down like so and then just take some silicone and just gently go around the whole thing and so we've got that all hooked up it's all around there and then just flip it over put it right down the hole and then make sure the handle is pretty much somewhat just on the right side because that's where it's going to be at now we go back down below okay so we got that down the hole we've got this piece that actually is going to set up on the stone and then we have this nut right here that is going to hold the faucet in place and we have this wrench that comes with it to put it in place [Music] once again getting on our backs i feel like the camera's set up at a pretty good place for us just make sure there's two sides to this there's the boat outside and the indented side you want to make sure the indented side goes towards put this as far as we can go and then we'll just start tightening [Music] four hours later i'm still turning okay so there is a little bit of epoxy that's kind of hindering the way this is sitting down so we're going to go ahead and we're going to take some of that off real quick this is plumbing folks things like this happen all the time don't get discouraged there's always a solution for something you just gotta find it we've done that we'll just take the provided tool and we'll tighten it back up we'll get it pretty tight go back up top make sure that it's straight and then we'll tighten it up the rest of the way that's a good seal up top that ain't going anywhere and now we get ready for the next little part of the project yeah so before we hook up the water lines we're actually going to cut the drain out um just get it out of our way it'll be quick and easy so pull out the old ginsu um i don't actually really remember the name the plum best some kind of thing but it's a ginsu man it cuts everything and uh i've used it to cut two by fours whatever when i was in a pinch so just really look like cuts like butter man do yourself a favor and don't spill do not spill trap water in somebody's house especially if it's been sitting for a little while it is nasty and it actually smells pretty nasty too so i'm gonna go ahead and dump this out we'll get this hooked up i tell you not to do it and what do i do spill the water man killing me so while getting up to dump the trap i noticed that the plumber's putty on the disposal ring has come out a little bit more i just want to let you guys know this is very normal this happens all the time okay so now we're going to install the trap adapter so we got our abs glue just go with a little bit around the pipe fitting and then and the inside of this does not take much you want to stick that on [Music] and then give it a quarter of a turn hold it in place for a couple of seconds just make sure that it holds and holds tight and that's good to go and bam just like that we have our space back to hook up our valves over here so we'll just turn the camera that way and we'll put the lid on the glue and just keep on rolling here for this we're gonna grab just our little small crescent wrench little dewalt and make sure at this point that you're going hot to hot and cold to cold when you're down here and you're on your back it makes it a little bit it can make it a little bit difficult but the one nice thing is is that delta they color code on the inside so red with the hot and blue with the cold you can kind of feel it clip in and start turning and then cold side and i just like to take these and just they're a little bit long but really these pex lines work with the deltas you can bend these and kind of shape them the way that you want and they really stay for the most part a lot of times in a regular style sink i mean this is a huge sink underneath here they've got tons of area because it's a corner cabinet hook this up but in a regular sink what i end up doing is i will in a regular sink what i'll end up doing is just making loops and it works out really well and you'll see that in another video at some point um there will be plenty of faucets i'm sure i changed a lot of faucets [Music] you want to just go a little bit past hand tight and i know people that crank these down and there's no point you know this way you can reuse it again if you actually read the instructions they only want you to go you know no more than a turn and a half past hand tight and it shall be good and so then the next thing just to make sure because next thing we're going to do just to make sure before we hook the rest of the faucet up we are going to flush this faucet we're going to grab a bucket we're going to stick a bucket under here we're going to turn these valves on and then we're going to test it real quick before we hook it the rest of the way up so i cross the hot in the cold so i'm just gonna take these off real quick [Music] and swap them it's a quick fix and really it can happen to anybody i will apologize because i even was telling in the explanation as i was doing it that the hot is usually on the left and the cold is on the right and i still did it wrong so it's okay you know what i'm only human just like everybody else [Music] i've never claimed to be the greatest plumber in the world i make mistakes i learn every day you know i'm just hard working and i'm just trying to fix things trying to help people out and so with that comes challenges but we're hooked back up it really is a a minute fix and we're back to testing okay so we're gonna use a watering can and i'm gonna have the homeowner turn the the water on and we're gonna flush the faucet out okay go ahead okay you can shut it off okay that's great perfect thank you so now we will install the retaining clip that hooks up the sprayer hose to the faucet and we'll also put on the weight that actually keeps that down so how you do that is you slip that on you take this make sure it's pushed all the way in and then you just take this clip and it's good delta makes that quite easy we will get the rest of the drain hooked up and installed and then we'll test this bad boy with the p-trap we'll take this part of the j2 and we'll stick this on here that way you have this hooked up we'll take the the nut from the half inch trap adapter put that on there like so the glue is dry there's a little bit of gunk in there and we will put this in place and just kind of tighten it loosely we won't actually tighten it yet but we'll just get it in place and just kind of make sure we get a feel for where it's going to be at we will pop the disposal on so disposal you just kind of line it up [Music] look for the three little tabs they kind of rotate around kind of going up a ramp and so you get that in place and you don't have to click it the whole way in yet so it's on and that works and then we will see [Music] just how far we need to go here so a little bit more out let's take this off and make sure we have enough inside that trap arm and oh yeah we got funny so we can stretch that out even a little bit more we'll take this nut right here and this washer and put that onto this so you if this wasn't already installed you would have to install this but since it actually came off of the old sink we didn't actually have to we could just use the same one so it makes for an easy hookup and then we just tighten this up here now that we've got the drain in before we actually tighten everything down we're going to use a little mega lock on it this stuff like i said i can't say enough good things it's for metal and plastic i i use it a lot i don't use tons but i use enough um so just go around it sparingly a little bit goes a long way and the nice thing about this stuff is it never really gets hard like some other types of pipe dope and it is it works out very well so let's take the trap back off and i like to put a little bit there's a bevel on this this j-tube and i like to put just a little bit around that bevel because that actually is what seals everything there and then we'll just go ahead and put some on this ring right here and that's that the bevel for this type it's like i said not tons just a little bit and we just pop this in place let's take that off okay so not tons and then we'll just put this back in place so let's put the trap on first we just tighten all those down i like to go hand tight i don't go anything past that i feel like this adequately does more than enough if you feel like your grip is not strong enough or it's hurting your hands you know you…
