HOW TO INSTALL A FARM GATE

What happens here

Gather a measuring tape and a Sharpie or lumber pencil to mark the drilling locations on the wooden fence post. Measure the vertical distance between the center of the upper gate hanger and the center of the lower gate hanger as it sits on the gate. This is a crucial measurement for aligning the hinges on the post. Then, measure the desired clearance from the ground to the bottom of the gate (e.g., 11 inches) and mark this point on the post. From this bottom mark, measure up the previously determined hanger-to-hanger distance (e.g., 37.5 inches) and mark the upper drilling spot. Use a level to check if the post is plumb, as even slight leans can affect the gate's levelness.

Goal: Accurately mark the wooden post for drilling the hanger bolt holes.
