What happens here

This video offers business advice focusing on time management and negotiation strategies, specifically regarding interactions with salespeople. It emphasizes that business owners should prioritize their time and only engage in face-to-face meetings when there's a clear financial benefit or an inbound sales opportunity (e.g., a customer hiring your company). The advice is presented as a monologue by a business owner, contrasting with traditional DIY projects by providing strategic guidance rather than hands-on construction steps.

Today's lesson, don't waste your time with salespeople. Some of you may be salespeople out there. And if I'm going to hurt your feelings, oh well, it happens. Friend of mine called me up today trying to buy a truck. Yeah, brand new truck. Drove out to the dealership. First mistake. Don't you dare waste your time driving out to a dealership. You call them on the phone. You tell them what you want. You have them price it out and send it to you via email. Then you call another dealership on the phone. You have them price it out. You do that two, three times. You nail down who you want to work with. Then you do what I do. You call the person that you want to work with. You tell them, "Bring the truck to me. I live at such and such address. Drive it over to my house. Bring the paperwork with you." You're probably saying to yourself, "Yeah, right." No, really. Right. That's what you do. Your time is valuable. Get it in your head. Simple concept. You're the one paying the dollar. Why should you waste your time going to them? Salespeople are always going to want you to meet with them. Why? Because it's hard to say no face to face. They're going to time and time again, let's go have coffee. Let's go do this. First thing I ask, are you trying to sell me something? with the answer is like, "Well, we want you to review this." Review this means you're trying to sell me something. No, you don't get my time. My time's valuable. You know who gets my time? My customers get my time. My job managers get my time. People that pay me get my time. You, you're out there listening to this right now. You're the owner. You're the business manager. When someone wants to meet with you, you say yes when they have a check in their hand, when they have a job that they want you to do. But if it's something you're going to buy, automatically no. You're not going to go to that meeting. Stop wasting your time. Even if it's for advertising, even if it's for marketing, let's say it is for marketing, you want to meet with them because you need to understand more. You have them come to you. You make sure beforehand they've emailed you all the information. This is something I love. I love it when they're like, "Oh, I'll explain it to you face to face." No, you won't, Jack. You know why you won't explain it face to face to me? Because I'm not going to meet with you. Get that information to me beforehand. Then if I like what I see on paper, then you're going to have my time and you're going to buy me coffee. That's right. I'm not very nice when it comes to this stuff because my time is valuable and you need to understand your time is valuable as well the right way. Time prioritization, it's the number one thing that kills a lot of businesses. I see got people time and time again going out and doing things that doesn't make them money. Stop yourself. Ask yourself, do they have a check for me when I show up at that job site? They going to have money put it in my pocket? Am I going to get a free lunch? Nothing else? The answer to all that is no. Or you have to bring your checkbook and write it out to buy something. Forget it. What are you doing? Even if it's something like a truck, have them bring it to you. Truck's a big thing. $30,000 bill, $40,000 bill. Think a salesperson will deliver that truck to you? Oh, yeah. Had it done. They'll do it for you. Time prioritization. Get on the ball. You're a business owner. You're no more no longer a technician. You're no longer a craftsman. Those are your skills. You're an owner of a company. I want you to know what that means. The ball is in your court. It's in your court now and it is always going to be in your court. You hold the purse strings. Use that power wisely. Love you guys. Have a good one.
