What happens here
This project provides a guide on developing an effective networking strategy for business owners, emphasizing the importance of building deep, memorable connections with customers and contacts rather than simply exchanging business cards. It encourages a shift from a 'craftsman' or 'technician' mindset to an 'entrepreneurial' one, where personal connections are prioritized, and every interaction is seen as an opportunity to foster lasting relationships.

(5,735 characters)I'd rather network with three people that remember me than 30 people that forget me it's not about going to a meeting grabbing your business cards flipping them out and handing them all over and over and over and over and over again that doesn't make a difference you're wasting your resources you're wasting your time you need to make a deeper connection with people they need to remember who you are when you walk away from that meeting that's where networking 101 Les learning how to network is so huge there's no sense in going out there and just wasting your time if nobody's going to remember who you are so I'm going to walk you through a networking dinner me meeting the power of actually hooking up with people connecting with them making that Lasting Impression so let's get going on a side note my wife's gone some of you may know that I tore out the countertops couple years ago I poured all brand new concrete countertops put [Music] a countertops put a brown leather likee finish over them they were absolutely gorgeous but then I didn't like them anymore she's gone away guess what I'm doing tearing them all out we're going to rebuild them it'll be in a different video maybe you like it maybe I'll like it maybe I won't if I don't like it I'll tear it out again in a couple years but let's get back to the point of this one networking let's roll so some of my customers found out that my wife was in Florida and they said well you poor boy we're going to have to feed and water you now as much as I wouldn't mind having an evening to myself I also don't mind going out with my customers when they're willing to buy me dinner and talk about business it's all about making the connections when you're a business owner it's going to go beyond installing projects now they're not inviting me out because I am the best technician that they've ever had in fact on their job I have never actually worked a single day but year after year I sign a contract contract with them and we do at least $50,000 worth of projects around their site and what that means is they're comfortable with me not because of my skills but because of the way I run the business and that's what I want from you I want you to be the absolute best business owner I want you to realize that your technical skills are not as important as your business skills you've got to make that connection you've got to move away from the mind frame that you are a Craftsman and into the mind frame that you are first and foremost a business owner your customers will appreciate that more than anything else when you get in that mind frame you're going to spend more time connecting with the customer with the person then you are going to be working on the project tonight's a great example I'm going out to dinner you know that the point with this dinner isn't for me to build anything for these people it's for me to build a deeper relationship with them that's how it works that's where you're going every job every time you show up on a project you have that opportunity you have the chance to make the connection with your customer to make that Lasting Impression when you do that your dollar bills will increase when you do that you will have more money in your back pocket that's the difference so take this lesson with you transform yourself change yourself remember we've talked about it before the most important thing in any business is your connection with the customer all right I'm here I'm early uh going to be doing this dinner business meeting networking networking networking how often does it happen right behind me right there is a master networker Scott he's the president of the banking Association I've hung out with him before and here he is what right to the right right along with me 6:30 at night he's out networking let's go say hi let's go see how he's doing shall we Scott how you doing buddy got you on camera just thought I'd say hi how you doing good how are you good you want to F tomorrow morning for breakfast D um okay so now I'm going to a Rotary meeting in the morning that's how networking Works wasn't planning on it but I'm off to the races tomorrow tomorrow 7: a.m. to a rotary me meeting for the city of Egan Scott invited me I'm going to go with that's how you make things happen it's not always planned it's not always expected tonight's dinner date wasn't either but you got to keep going you got to keep connecting the dots Scott how you doing buddy got you on camera just thought I'd say hi how you doing good how are you good you want to come tomorrow morning for breakfast uh let's go over what we learned today you say yes immediately to each and every networking opportunity coffee lunch dinner perfect go out make that deeper connection with your customer when you network don't think you've succeeded when you've gone out and handed out 30 cards and you have 30 people that will never remember you go out and hand out three cards and here's an important Point make a second touch or a third touch to those people and what that means is even though you've only handed out two or three cards when you're done you have their card their phone number a way to reach out to them and then you call them now what you've just done by calling them is you've cemented that contact in their mind and if you have an excuse to call them a third time a few days later boom you my friend have just become Unforgettable that's the difference you go out and toss away 30 cards of people you never met before just go out and throw them in the garbage what are you doing don't do that don't mess around with that Network the right way effectively be memorable love you guys have a good one my dirt monkey Maniacs take care [Music]
