Fitness Friday: Workouts for Painters. Fitness From Home!

What happens here

The speaker demonstrates Russian Twists, an exercise for the abdominal muscles. He performs the exercise sitting on the floor with his feet lifted off the ground, twisting his torso from side to side, touching the floor with his hands (or a medicine ball/paint can for added resistance) on each side. He advises using a pad under the tailbone if working on a hard surface and stresses twisting the core, not just reaching. He suggests performing 50 repetitions, either consecutively or in 5 sets of 10. He demonstrates with and without a medicine ball, and then with a paint can.

Goal: Perform Russian twists to strengthen the core.

Tools and materials

  • Abs Pad — Providing comfort for the tailbone during Russian twists
  • Medicine Ball DYNAMAx — Adding resistance to Russian twists
  • Paint Can Durabak-18 — Alternative for adding resistance to Russian twists

and this is the not fun part but here we go uh russian twist we're gonna do 50 russian twists and a russian twist i like to have a pad you know underneath me because as you're twisting if you're on a hard matting like this um i've actually rubbed my tailbone raw and it hurts so um you can use a pad if you need to but a russian twist is you're just going to be up near legs in the air and you're just going to twist from side to side and touch the mat now what you don't want to do is just sit here looking like this and just reaching over you actually want to twist your core and touch the mat twist so each touch is one all right one two three four five six just like that that is a russian twist and it's interesting because it doesn't look that difficult but it is really difficult now here's a russian twist if you get into using weight so you're gonna touch the ball each side one two three just like that that added weight is gonna make you stronger give you a stronger core so uh first exercise is gonna be 50 russian twist and you try to do them consecutively if you can't break them up into sets of ten but here we go we'll do a russian twist [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right so if you're strong enough to do these with um you know added weight and you don't have a wall ball once again our paint can conserve is our resistance and we can do 50 russian twists with a paint can
