What happens here

Take the hardened blade to a belt grinder. Use an 80-grit belt first, followed by a 120-grit belt, to flatten both sides of the blade and begin shaping its symmetrical profile. As you grind, the friction will generate significant heat. To prevent the blade from overheating (which can ruin the previous hardening step), frequently dip the blade into a water bath kept near the grinder. This rapid cooling maintains the blade's temper.

Goal: Shape and refine the blade's profile.

  • 80-grit Sanding Belt — Initial rough shaping and material removal
