BEST NO-NONSENSE EASY GUIDE to RAISING YOUR NEW BABY CHICKS with success!

What happens here

To maintain optimal temperatures, the brooder needs to be warm, ideally between 85-95 degrees Fahrenheit (29-35 degrees Celsius) directly under the heat source. Chicks must also have enough space to move away from the heat if they get too warm. If chicks huddle together directly under the lamp, the brooder is too cold. If they spread out to the edges, it is too hot. Adjust the lamp's height or wattage accordingly. The presenter removes the heat lamp for demonstration, replacing it with the recommended fluorescent light, and demonstrates how to hang and adjust it using zip ties on an Irwin Quick-Grip clamp secured to a metal bar.

Goal: Provide optimal temperature and light, allowing chicks to self-regulate their warmth

Tools and materials

  • Fluorescent Bulb Heat Lamp — Providing light and heat in the brooder
  • Irwin Quick-Grip Clamp Irwin — Securely fastening the metal bar to the brooder and holding the light cable
  • Metal Bar — Providing a sturdy anchor point for the clamp and light
  • Zip Ties — Attaching the light's cable to the metal bar for adjustable height
