Battling Ice! Parking lot rescue!

What happens here

The presenter, Stanley, begins by setting the context for the project. He explains that despite a seemingly small amount of snow (less than an inch), the underlying conditions are treacherous due to ice. This location, an 'old church' with elderly attendees, operates under a 'zero-tolerance' policy for slippery conditions to ensure safety. He outlines that the project will involve first scraping (plowing) the lot and then salting it (to be covered in a subsequent video). He also briefly explains that sand is not used in this metropolitan area to avoid it being tracked into buildings.

Goal: Understand the project's necessity, site specifics, and overall plan.

Tools and materials

  • Ice N/A — The underlying hazardous condition requiring removal
  • Light Snow — The material to be cleared from the parking lot

it doesn't look bad but it's treacherous out fact I just got done talking to the gal at the church and even though it's not a lot of snow we got less than an inch at this point this is the worst kind of snow and this is a zero tolerance account and the the reason this is what we call a zero tolerance this is our church this is our old church we call this the old church cuz it's old people that go here and if you look at this lot it's not perfectly flatten level so the folks that come in here have a difficult time getting into church even if it's a bright sunny day in the middle of June and the lot was perfectly level they're still having a difficult time but you stick uh old folk on something like this on this just slight angle coming down and then you put a layer of ice underneath that it's slip and fall season all day long so we're going to scrape this lot down and then we're going to Salt this lot so that when the folks come in for church we know that they're walking on the best possible conditions we can give them this is going to be a two-part series the first one it's going to be us doing the scraping second one we're going to Salt the heck out of this thing and we don't use sand ah we got to bring that up we don't use sand because in the Metro metropolitan area we don't want to have sand tracked into all of these buildings now when you're out in the country freak yeah mix that salt with sand it gives you melt it gives you gripon beautiful use it on the roads use it on the highways but on parking lot lot parking lots like this never shall the two materials
