What happens here
Set your multimeter to the capacitance testing mode, typically indicated by a symbol resembling parallel lines with an arrow (µF). Ensure the red lead is plugged into the VΩ→||- port and the black lead into the COM port. Refer to the labels on the capacitor for 'Common' (C), 'Fan' (F), and 'Herm' (H). For the Fan component, place one multimeter probe on 'C' and the other on 'F'. The reading should be close to the microfarad (µF) rating for the fan on the capacitor's label (e.g., if labeled 40/5 µF, the fan reading should be around 5 µF). For the Hermetic Compressor component, place one probe on 'C' and the other on 'H'. This reading should be close to the higher µF rating on the label (e.g., around 40 µF for a 40/5 µF capacitor). If any reading is significantly off or displays 'OL' (overload/open line), the capacitor is faulty and needs replacement.
