Firmly push the pipe into the fitting, giving it a quarter-turn twist to ensure even distribution of the cement, and hold for about 30 seconds. To connect the new PVC system to the old metal pipe, use a flexible rubber coupling. Slide the coupling over both pipe ends and securely tighten the metal band clamps with a screwdriver or nut driver.
