Step 4 · Inspect and Prepare the Rough Opening

Thoroughly clean out any debris, old caulk, or insulation from the rough opening. Inspect the wood for rot or damage and make any necessary repairs. Use a level and plumb bob to ensure the opening is square, level, and plumb. Shim as needed to create a perfectly square and plumb opening for the new window.
