Step 2 · Turn Off the Water Supply

Locate the hot and cold water shutoff valves on the wall behind the washing machine. The hot valve is typically on the left and the cold on the right. Turn the valve handles clockwise ('righty-tighty') until they stop moving. If you have lever-style valves, turn them a quarter turn so the handle is perpendicular to the water pipe. This will stop the flow of water to the hoses.
