Step 2 · Remove Old Toilet Seat
Locate the two plastic caps on the top of the toilet bowl, near the back where the seat hinges are. Pry these caps open with your fingers or a flathead screwdriver to expose the heads of the bolts securing the toilet seat. Using a screwdriver (typically a Phillips head), hold the bolt head steady from the top while reaching underneath the toilet bowl rim to unscrew the plastic nuts by hand. If the nuts are too tight, use a pair of pliers or a wrench. Once the nuts are removed, lift the old toilet seat and hinges straight up and off the bowl. Clean the area thoroughly.
