Step 1 · Prepare Workspace and Shut Off Water
Begin by turning off the water supply to the toilet. The shut-off valve is typically located on the wall or floor behind the toilet. Turn the handle clockwise until it stops. Next, flush the toilet and hold the flush handle down to drain as much water as possible from the tank. Place a bucket and several old towels on the floor beneath the toilet tank's water connection point to catch any remaining water.
