Step 1 · Identify Spout Type and Gather Tools
First, identify the location of the setscrew on the old tub spout. It is typically found in a small recess on the underside of the spout, close to the wall. Shine a flashlight into the recess to determine if it requires a hexagonal Allen wrench or a flathead/Phillips screwdriver. Gather all necessary tools, including the Allen wrench set, the new replacement tub spout, a rag, and a tube of silicone caulk. Before you begin work, place the rag over the tub drain to catch any dropped items.
