You've never seen a farm water system like this...cheap, easy no electrical required!

What happens here

Unload rolls of 300 feet of 3/4-inch poly pipe from a Kubota UTV. The pipe will be laid out from the pond to the upper pasture where a temporary frost-free hydrant will be installed. The hydrant connects to the poly pipe via a 3/4-inch pipe connector (barbed fitting) at its base. The hydrant operates by a shaft that opens a valve below the frost line when the handle is raised, allowing water to flow. When the handle is lowered, the valve closes, and all water in the pipe drains out through a small gravel pit at the bottom, preventing freezing. For the temporary setup, secure the hydrant to a fence post using zip ties and press-fit the poly pipe into the barbed fitting. For a permanent installation, use Teflon tape on all threaded connections to ensure a watertight seal.

Goal: Set up a temporary water intake and distribution point (hydrant) from the pond.

Tools and materials

  • 3/4-inch Pipe Connector — Connecting the poly pipe to the hydrant
  • Frost-Free Hydrant — Dispensing water and preventing freezing
  • Kubota UTV Kubota — Transporting materials like poly pipe
  • Poly Pipe — Conveying water from the pond to the hydrant
  • Teflon Tape — Sealing threaded pipe joints for permanent installations
  • Zip Ties — Securing the hydrant to the fence post temporarily
