World’s FIRST DEWALT Battery Powered Log Splitter! You decide if it’s Tough Enough!

What happens here

Take a detailed look at the 9-ton log splitter. Observe the integrated hydraulic tank within the frame, noting its filler neck and breather cap. Identify the 5-inch wedge and the log pusher mechanism. Familiarize yourself with the main control lever and the high/low speed selector located in the battery compartment. Note the sturdy, solid tires and the adjustable leg/handle for stability and maneuverability.

Goal: Understand the components and basic operation of the 9-ton log splitter

Hey folks, this is Josh, Stony Ridge Farmer. Welcome back to another fun and exciting Tool Tuesday. Today, I am super excited to bring you some really cool stuff. So, behind me I have a DeWalt 20-ton log splitter, electric log splitter. And then, in front of me, I have a 9-ton electric log splitter. And today, what we're going to do is run over these things and see how well they work. Are they farm tough? Are they cool? Do they work good? Will they split wood? I will tell you I've never split any wood with these. This is a first impression, the first time I've ever seen them. I put them together yesterday, and today we're going to test them out. So, no gas needed. These run on 60-V Flexvolt batteries. Really cool. Let's get down to business. So, let's walk around the machine a little bit, and then we're going to put some wood on it. I've got a little bit of wood in the back of my side-by-side right here. So, we've got some big pieces that we're going to split. We got some smaller pieces. We got some pine. We got some oak. And we got some sycamore, some old knotty sycamore. So, we're going to put them to the test, for sure. And we're going to see what you guys think. I want you to post comments, and I'm going to tell you what I think at the end of this. So, let's look at this little 9-ton unit. So, again, these run right off of the standard Flexvolt type battery. Uh really cool. This is an 8-amp hour fast charger, okay? Inside this compartment are our batteries. We're going to scoot around this thing and show you guys everything about it. Pretty robust uh design right here. Very interesting how the hydraulic tank is actually built into the framework here. So, this is not only the framework for the log splitter, it's actually the hydraulic tank, the hydraulic reservoir. And you fill it right here. It has a breathable cap right there because our hydraulic oil will get warm as we use the log splitter. And we've got a little sight glass right here, so we can see our level. And we've cycled it a couple times. I imagine that level will drop as we extend our cylinder to full length right here. Now, as we look, we've got a little bit of electronic components right here, our switches for controls. And just like any other log splitter, we have a handle just like so with an auto return. Let's go ahead and cycle this thing real quick, so you guys see and hear what it sounds like. Pretty cool. We'll fully cycle it here in a second. We'll show you guys high speed and low…
