We start Snowplowing off with a BANG! #snowplowing

What happens here

As dusk falls, the plowing operations continue. The strategy for this particular commercial lot is 'zero-tolerance,' meaning no snow or ice is allowed to accumulate. To achieve this and save on salt, the snow is first completely plowed and scraped from the asphalt. Then, salt will be applied to melt any remaining ice. Due to strict regulations on where snow can be piled, machines like the SDLG C918F loader with a large Arctic sectional plow are used to push snow long distances to dedicated snow pile zones, often requiring multiple passes beyond logical short-distance piling spots.

Goal: Achieve zero-tolerance snow and ice removal while optimizing salt usage.

Tools and materials

  • Arctic Sectional Plow — Attached to the SDLG loader for wide and efficient snow clearing
  • Kubota R530 Mini-Loader Kubota — Supporting snow clearing operations, possibly in tighter areas
  • Pickup Truck with Plow Dodge Ram — Supporting snow clearing operations
  • SDLG C918F Loader SDLG — Heavy-duty snow plowing and relocation, equipped with LED lights for visibility
  • Rock Salt N/A — Melting residual ice after plowing

What they say

Hide

So, you're probably wondering why we're plowing snow when there really is no snow to be plowed. Well, we have a lot of zero tolerance accounts. And what a zero tolerance account means is we are not allowed to have any snow or ice accumulate on the lot at all. And to save salt, we plow. It's cheaper and easier to plow a lot than try to cook off a/2 in to an inch of ice with salt. So the first thing you do is you plow it, you scrape it, you get the main stuff gone, and then you come through with your salt and you apply that. And then that means you can use the least amount of salt possible. Heat up Besides being zero tolerance account, we also have very strict areas that we're allowed to pile snow. If we get outside of the area where we're supposed to be piling snow, it means we've got to come back another night and move that off. So, you'll see us putting the snow past logical places where to store it because it's got to go to a dedicated snow pow pile stock zone.
