What happens here

The creator explains that standard fascia boards (typically 1x6, 1x8, 1x10, or 1x12) are not wide enough for the 14.5-inch fascia needed for the A-frame. To achieve the required width and ensure weatherproofing, he employs a 'triple stack' method. This involves installing a 1x6 board, followed by a 1x12 board directly below it, and then overlapping the seam with a 1x8 board. This creates a staggered, layered effect that provides both the necessary width and an effective barrier against water intrusion. The boards are nailed into place using the siding nailer. He emphasizes the importance of caulking all seams for complete waterproofing.

Goal: Achieve the necessary 14.5-inch fascia width using a triple-stack method

Tools and materials

  • Siding Nailer — Nailing the fascia boards into place
  • 1x12 Fascia Board — Part of the triple-stack fascia
  • 1x6 Fascia Board — Part of the triple-stack fascia
  • 1x8 Fascia Board — Overlapping the seam in the triple-stack fascia
  • Caulk — Sealing all seams for waterproofing
  • Coil Siding Nails — Securing the fascia boards

man okay the last of the fascia is on but now we also have to do the fascia on the actual A-frame section this is 14 1/2 in and they don't have fascia that's 14 and2 inch so we have to do a double stack or technically it's called that thing a triple stack and the way we're going to accomplish this is we're going to lay down our 1x6 then 1x12 that's going to create I think 16 in so then to overlap that we put a 1x8 to cover that seam by like 2 in I think and then caul it all up and all that stuff that's the annoying part uh that's quite a bit of material you got to be thrown on and that's the stupid part when building an A-frame that's that's what you're dealing with all right in case you're wondering why I have these little scrap pieces well that's for the roofing uh specifications the roof is going to go over it and the plan showed there has to be this Gap when we triple stack it all and this is just to make sure I'm keeping my spacing perfect that this continues right over it and not having the roof kick out so playing ahead looking at the plans executing [Music]
