What happens here
This project details the process of installing a metal roof on an A-frame house, focusing on the preparatory work of fascia installation, the application of underlayment layers for waterproofing, and the subsequent installation of standing seam metal panels. While the video specifically highlights ensuring a watertight seal on metal roof seams and joints using durable butyl tape, the visual demonstration of butyl tape application during panel installation is not explicitly shown. However, the process generally involves careful layering and proper fastening techniques to achieve a robust and sealed metal roof.

(19,999 characters)oh you got to be kidding me how is this short a foot this is ridiculous man can anything go right on this house H yeah good morning it's very cold it's 27° this morning we're weeks away from snowfall depending on the season who knows but on a good note our roofers are coming and we got to get this place ready to get the roof on in order to get the roof on we need to get the fascia all wrapped on top and down the bottom and the sides the unfortunate part is just me today so I'm going to be hanging these long boards myself hopefully I think I have an idea how to do it uh we'll see if it executes well I got my siding nailer here it's all ched out as you can see and I got my coils of siding Nails uh that is going to make sure this thing stays on and not going to start rottening away I've only been here for about 15 minutes setting up and I can't feel my hands already so we're going to see how it goes [Music] all right the idea train came in clutch right now I got a last minute idea of putting a little bracket right behind a little scrap piece jig if you will just tacking it in the back of the subfascia to hold one side of the fascia and then putting on the ladder here and then bring it up so in a way you can do this yourself man these last minute creative ideas come to you and man do they save your butt [Music] oh man this is frustrating these are like 12 in wide well technically 11 and a quar facia they're long they're heavy there's a slope away from the house to make sure the snow and water goes away from so the ladder is all wonky it' be so nice to have an extra set of hands just to do something like this man okay the last of the fascia is on but now we also have to do the fascia on the actual A-frame section this is 14 1/2 in and they don't have fascia that's 14 and2 inch so we have to do a double stack or technically it's called that thing a triple stack and the way we're going to accomplish this is we're going to lay down our 1x6 then 1x12 that's going to create I think 16 in so then to overlap that we put a 1x8 to cover that seam by like 2 in I think and then caul it all up and all that stuff that's the annoying part uh that's quite a bit of material you got to be thrown on and that's the stupid part when building an A-frame that's that's what you're dealing with all right in case you're wondering why I have these little scrap pieces well that's for the roofing uh specifications the roof is going to go over it and the plan showed there has to be this Gap when we triple stack it all and this is just to make sure I'm keeping my spacing perfect that this continues right over it and not having the roof kick out so playing ahead looking at the plans executing [Music] last piece of fish is on finally got the front and the back these were an absolute nightmare to do they're really long really awkward I got an extra set of hands to help me with that last thing I need to do is start throwing my corners on on and then once that's on the roofer should be here any minute now uh they said today they're going to start putting all the ice barrier all the water uh moisture barriers down all the flashing down cuz the flashing has to go on and then tomorrow they said they're going to start laying actual the metal roof so I'm going to throw these on real quick and hopefully by the time I'm done they show up all right guys this is our bonus room this is where the kids play video games and we watch Sunday football with the family right now it's pretty bright and boring and today we parted with goie to create the ultimate immersive viewing experience for gaming and sports let's get started for this bonus room transformation we're going to be using the goie curtain Light 2 the GOI TV backlight the GOI neon rope light and the goie floor lamp goie smart lights can transform any space into an entertaining and immersive atmosphere for sports you transform a simple room into a sports themed man cave with goie smart lights easily customize the lighting to create an immersive experience for fans to enjoy games in style all right we got the goie TV backlight installed really easy installation what's great about it has a color match in it so it matches the content that you're watching on TV to create that immersive experience these are the goie curtains too what's great about them is that it has 200 preset settings for the goie app to create different pattern or through the app you can create your own custom pattern right now it's way too bright outside so we're going to wait till it's D Dime to show you really how it pops this is the goie neon rope light 2 it allows for you to create any kind of pattern and design on the wall and it has a nice rich glow with the LEDs we're going to open up and see if we can create something over each one of these TVs the curtain lights are super cool there's so many different settings you can choose your scenes that you want obviously you can't see it right now because it's so light and there's a music setting When the Music's playing the room it's going to pick up like it's picking up my voice to the Beat of the Music what's cool about the goie floor lamps is that not only can you choose from tons of different colors and brightness but also has the music mode on it where it's going to pick up any noise that's in the room and make beats to that music or during the game imagine a touchdown and how the celebration amplifies the entire room even with lights all right let's check out how it looks when the lights are completely [Music] out thank you goby for partnering us on this project make sure you click the link in description below to check out goie products to transform any bonus room or any room in your house to be an ultimate entertaining experience now let's get back into this video so you guys must be doing something good in life with this positive Karma cuz this all of a sudden the rain stops I think it's called finally catching a break so a 2112 pitch roof is that the steepest you've done no um I think we've done 24 242 no harnesses no uh throw on some ropes and stuff especially if OSHA swings by yeah well you should have been here when they're putting that my roofers right here there's not a harness inside this is by the way Corbin from Chuck Norris Roofing uh by the way Chuck Norris Roofing what's what's the story there I um just looking for a name people wouldn't forget you know like my uh my father-in-law were brainstorming ideas was like take a leak Roofing Chuck Norse Roofing you I like and he said it and I was like oh we don't nunchuck around I mean there's all sorts of I should have thought that when I came up with Mr build something yeah well there there's always I'm pretty sure that uh P Diddy is open now P didy Roofing no Diddy Roofing nobody will forget that yeah all right I'll let you guys get to work [Music] so how does it work do you guys have to rock paper scissor who has to climb on the on the Roof oh no I'm as help oh it's already been established do you pull up to the thing and be like damn 2112 roof come [Music] on we got four crazy rains now hail it's going to snow tomorrow watch ID right [Music] we're off to a good start the roofers got right now the first two layers are the freeze and Ice barrier that keeps all the ice that comes down usually it's the last part that falls off and when it freezes over and stays there it has a tendency to seep into the house so by putting the freeze barrier down it keeps us out of that kind of problems after that they're going to start running up regular uh moisture barrier uh on top and then the metal that we went with this is the pro panel and there's a couple of different variations of this uh there is the round version that kind of has these bumps and grooves that I'm not a fan of and then there's this more squared ribbed uh style which I think looks way more modern my fear was that they're going to use multiple layers and stack them together which it is what it is but Corbin was awesome enough to be able to track down long 32f Footers of this stuff so they're going to go one piece at a time and they're going to lock in between each seams for about uh 3,800 squ ft maybe close to 4,000 ft of roofing he had me just order the supplies and he picked it up and brought it over and installing it I paid 5,000 $900 so for about almost 4,000 ft of roofing material all the ice barrier all the moisture barrier all the Caps all the screws the transition pieces All That Jazz you're looking at about close to $6,000 just for materials alone and then everything else is labor the guys are going to finish wrapping it tonight it's going to make me sleep a lot better tonight knowing that in case more rain comes down the inside of the house has more room to dry off breathe and uh not tow the line of getting any kind of wear and tear on the hard work the framers that did to put everything in so far we're going to check back in the morning to see how everything's looking up and hopefully tomorrow we could start throwing up the rest of the panels and I can't tell you how just there's this huge sigh of relief off me right now cuz we are we are going to beat our goal to be able to get this thing dried in before winter and I need a knock on wood right now because knowing what we've been going through so far it might just snow tomorrow [Music] all right today's day three we got one full side all felted up so that's good uh the other side's not hopefully then the day will be um we got a crew that showed up today uh they're going to put drip edges flashings all the way across and then start putting the panels I'm really excited about that but I really need the other side to be felted over reason why we got a Stormfront coming in tonight and uh it's supposed to be like freezing rain and possibly even snow in some parts we'll find out tomorrow morning what that looks like but fingers crossed we get a lot of work done today now that we're officially dried in in terms of the felt is on top and the roofers are continuing putting the panels on here's one thing that I didn't know that needs to be done in terms of HVAC so I got my HVAC guy scheduled in 2 days he's supposed to be here and with him there's a step that I didn't realize I needed to be done and that is where the furnace is going to go which this is going to be the furnace closet this has to be insulated and drywalled up the reason is is when he comes in and sets his furnace and starts running all his duct work we won't be able to get behind that furnace to start hanging drywall and and do all the stuff that we needs to do so it's up to me or unless you hire a draww person just to come out to do a tiny little spot which makes no sense it's up to you as a general contractor to hang it up so I got to got this set insulated hang my drywall up there this stuff is still going to be accessible so I'll be able to sneak behind it later on but my goal right now is to get the sucker all drywalled up and ready for the HVAC guy in two days all right got the last sheet of draw mud on uh I got to go this thing I'm a little concerned because how cold it is mud's not going to dry or cure that well so I need to go pick up my propane heater to kind of point it here so it warms everything up and allows our mud to dry and once that's done we'll check in with the H guy in the morning it's a foot short yeah it's about a foot short to the peak we got to call Corbin hey how you doing good hey uh the guys are pulling panels up right now and they're saying the panels are a foot short we're at 30 ft 8 in 30t 8 in so they're measuring the peak 30 ft 8 in is that what you got 294 so the the boards are 29 and 29 298 and 3/4 and we're measuring the rout 30 and 8 all right he's uh he's brainstorming what to do I know I know what we could do but it just sucked it layering it yeah Murphy's Law anything can go wrong will go wrong we'll put the Eve on we'll just switch shift gears until something happens our panels that we waited on for 2 weeks they're a foot Too Short um supposed to be 30 and 8 in this came out to be 29 and 8 in so exactly a foot our only options are to either a take these back they probably won't take them back cuz they're the whatever length maybe who knows second option is to stack it and so what that would mean is we would have essentially a 29f footer and then an extra foot on top and though it's perfectly safe it the problem is is because how steep this roof pitch is you're going to be looking and staring exactly at this perfect seam that's coming across according to the weather app we got a Stormfront coming in so it's it's going to be freezing rain and possibly snow and I was really starting to breathe a lot easier thinking that now this thing is going to be safe and go to plan and damn it we're going to be another three weeks out on this hey how's it going hey Corbin how you doing man good how are you uh dude not that great what what are our options right now man I don't know I'm speechless right now so I'm going to have to call in with the Met manufacturer I want it to be in one piece so it really make sense to to piece it in and so I'm just gonna have to order new panels I guess okay okay all right so we're g we're going to be another couple of weeks out on this huh Le time is two weeks uh but you know like we previously discussed I mean with with the pitch being as steep as it is in this case it helps us out a little bit the guys will be able to be on ladders and brush snow off and stuff all right thanks man all right bye okay well Murphy's Law anything can go wrong will go wrong and has been going wrong so far um Corbin's a stud um he's not going to make me take care of the bill he's going to cover it which I really appreciate that um and we got our moisture barriers everything's on so even if this storm front that comes in um we'll be sitting good so far so all right well let's give it a couple of weeks hopefully the metal shows up quicker um and pray that the snow is nothing serious and just Child's Play okay moving on [Music] so since we have a twoe delay on the roofing we might as well get started with HVAC and electrical this is Noah from Red Dog electric uh he reached out when I put out the Cry for Help of like if anybody knows anybody and he was pivotal to helping us get this squared away uh you came out set the temporary power pole got us all squared away connected us with Idaho City power supply to get it all running and I'm really kind of taught me a lot of like this process of like when you come in when not to come in exactly you're doing anything special over here in your mudroom space it's just going to have some hangers maybe some uh a bench with drawers underneath for shoes and stuff like that so good lighting probably one I think SC yeah I think so I think what we had were your plane showed we have like a can light somewhere right in here and we'll just do Center all way down like one two three that'll give you light when you first come in this is the the water heater room um we're going with the tankless to save space okay and because the meter was originally going to be on the outside I didn't want there to be a you know a electrical panel there right so you said you're going to be able to put our panel in here possibly so that was the now that you mentioned that it was going to go tankless that might help because requirements of a panel is we have to have clearance spaces of your panel 30 in is side to side okay a 3ft space directly in front of it and I believe it's 6' 7 so we have to have have this giant box working space in front of an electrical panel the house is built the next bathroom is right above us so we'll be able to just put both bathrooms on one circuit beautiful pretty simple in the dining room right pretty straight to the plans I didn't have any specifics that I wanted to address [Music] one thing you caught me way before we even started breaking ground is you said the plants called for a ceiling fan but there's no way to get a junction box up there correct so I mean the only way that you would have been able to do that with it being a ridge beam like that is as big as the beam was there's no way we'd be able to drill all the way through so your only other option at that point is if someone ever wanted to do a ceiling fan on a ridge beam is running exposed Conduit on the ridge beam and finding a place where it Dives back into the Sheep Rock that's good so and and then you see it right so now here's another thing with code too the nonsliding part of your sliding door it actually counts as wall space Oh it so by code we have to have an outlet within 6 foot from the part that opens up on a door in the living room you will have two floor Outlets just because to meat Cod to have six foot we will probably have a floor outlet in this side in this area on both sides okay and then carry on with one two dining room is the most complicated part right cuz when you don't have the cabin you kind of don't know what you need correct as it looks like you're going to have your cooktop here y so then at that point again we'll have an outlet here from your Sink Outlet here on the other side of your cooktop mirror it here um and then we'll just figure out how how much of a cabinet you're going to put here before you actually get to your my fridge yeah for the oven and microwave cuz I don't want to put a microwave over I think I'm going to have the unit that is that oven and oven oh Sor oven and oven oven and microwave uh stacked okay so that might be a good spot where you're actually so directly across from it right which that I'm looking at it this is not lined up with that vent if you do that you got to think you're coming out this far you're going to have dead space back in here with a countertop oh yeah right yeah so you come out this way yeah something like that what if we uh if we scratch the cooktop idea and put a regular old range here with the oven and then mounted the microwave into the island I think you're going to like the flow of that I think so too I I really they do so what's nice is even though we're going into the ceiling with all these can lights we'll get what's called a gimbal oh and so we can not have it directional pointing straight we can actually get it to where it points straight down okay so you don't have this Cross Beam if you're sitting here all of a sudden it feels like you're working right same with the bedroom same with the Loft same with in the bathroom well sweet man rock and roll couple of days couple daysome the goal let's get it well anything can go wrong will always go wrong that's I'm content with that now of course it snowed two we delay with our roof and it snowed about 5 in the good news is that uh it stopped snowing for now we cleared the driveway the new roof is on its way uh I'm trying to clear up a safe path for these guys to put their ladders in we don't want anything any casualties today trying to keep a good head on our shoulders and being optimistic so our new panels are here 32 ft long we should have extra pieces in case we need to because of the previous stuff is still here the wrong size the guy pre-drilled holes which looks like about 2 fet apart from each other that way when they just carry it up they just throw their screws in there and compress it together so excited this thing go on please no more storms full transparency have never done a metal roof done shingle roofs not a metal roofs and I'm learning a lot here so first of all they put the apron down below it's nice and long and it got it bent to the same angle as the roof 212 pitch they put all these 4ot panels all the way up and down and they are securing them with these metal screws that have this rubber gasket on them and a black washer on top and when they tighten it down tight it creates that watertight seal using that rubber gasket and the metal top washer it looks incredible look how massive…
