Tricks for Installing Composite Decking!
What happens here
After framing the door opening, proper flashing is installed to prevent water intrusion. The first layer is a deck ledger flashing, which seals the connection between the door threshold and the deck structure. Then, a counter-flashing is installed over the deck flashing, running up the rough opening wall. This creates a shingle-like effect, ensuring that any water attempting to penetrate behind the deck flashing is directed outward and away from the building envelope. Small L-bend pieces of metal are custom-bent and nailed into place.
Goal: Install multi-layer flashing to waterproof the door opening.
