What happens here
Begin placing the large 'frame rocks' around the Aquabasin opening, carefully arranging them to define the water flow and create the natural look of the waterfall. Select rocks with flat edges for stability. Use smaller gravel or rocks as shims to stabilize the frame rocks and adjust their angles. Once the frame rocks are generally in place, lay geotextile underlayment over the sharp edges of the Aquabasin and beneath the liner. This protects the liner from punctures or abrasion caused by the rocks.
Goal: Build the primary rock features and protect the liner
Tools and materials
- Fieldstone — Creating the main structure and flow path of the waterfall
- Geotextile Underlayment — Protecting the pond liner from punctures and abrasion caused by sharp rocks or uneven ground
- Gravel/Small Rocks — Stabilizing larger rocks and adjusting their height/angle for optimal water flow
- Weathered Limestone — Providing aesthetic variety and structural elements for the waterfall
