Testing BRAND new Hilti tools at World of Concrete 2020 4 k video

What happens here

This segment demonstrates the Hilti DD 250-CA core drill, emphasizing its automatic drilling capabilities and cut-assist technology. The presenter explains the importance of secure setup using a drop-in anchor and threaded spindle to prevent wobbling due to high torque. The water management system is highlighted, showing how water cools the motor and diamond segments, and how slurry is recycled. The cut-assist technology allows for automated drilling, sensing the surface, turning water on, and adjusting speed and pressure to engage the concrete. The machine automatically stops at a set depth and pulls itself out, turning off the water supply to prevent waste.

Goal: Showcase the automated, water-managed, and cut-assist features of the DD 250-CA core drill.

Tools and materials

  • Computer/Control Unit Hilti — Managing the automated drilling process and water flow
  • Core Bit Hilti — Drilling holes in concrete; features diamond segments
  • Drop-in Anchor — Securing the core drill stand to the concrete surface
  • Hilti DD 250-CA Core Drill Hilti — Core drilling into concrete with automated features
  • Threaded Spindle — Connecting the core drill stand to the drop-in anchor
  • Water Tank/Recycling System Hilti — Supplying water for cooling and collecting slurry
  • Concrete Slab N/A — Material being drilled
  • Water N/A — Cooling the motor and drill bit segments

to be able to showcase that. So, you're setting We've already set the machine up. When setting up a coring machine, the setup is very important. So, we have you can see in the ground over here a drop-in anchor, flush with the concrete. It actually sits a little bit below, so it's easy to cover up once you're finished with the work. Inside there, I put a spindle and you can see the setup here. So, I put a 5/8 thread spindle and clamp it down with something on top. That means my stand doesn't wobble. These machines have very high torque and if they wobble, if I don't have the stand here, the machine will whip around. Then once I've done that, I mount my motor on my column, so this motor can come on and off and then I mount the computer on the side. So you can see it, this is the same drill stand here. I have a little hole on the side and I have a through pin that goes through and catches the computer. So now this doesn't come off. And then I need to make sure when I'm pouring that I always have water. In this machine, I need water to cool the motor and also to cool the bit. So my water supply comes in through the computer so that the computer controls the motor. Then it comes out into the machine to cool the motor and then it comes down through the machine to cool the segments on the bit. These diamond segments You guys develop your own bits? Yes. These are your own? Yeah. Yep. So these segments here, you can see the little ridges, these are diamonds inside of a metal matrix. As they spin, we have water cooling them, the metal wears away, the diamonds get exposed, the diamonds are what cuts the concrete. Then eventually the diamonds break out, more metal wears away, more diamonds show up. There's water coming out of the bottom but it's being collected by the ring. It's going back through this black tube. It's being recycled inside of the tank over there. So that tank supplies me with my water and then also recycles the slurry that comes out and then re-pumps it. 4 gallons, you get about 30 gallons out of filling the tank with 4 gallons. With this cut assist technology, all I have to do to make a hole in concrete is press a button. Machine goes down, senses the surface, turns the water on, and then starts pouring. So, you'll see it's kicking a little bit, but it's low speed and high pressure to engage the concrete. Now, what I can do, I can supervise the system, I can have lunch, I can set another anchor stand. I don't have to sit here and spin this hand…
