What happens here

This project involves the complex task of demolishing a residential swimming pool and properly backfilling the excavation. The video highlights challenges faced due to previous improper backfilling by another contractor, necessitating the removal of unsuitable debris like satellite dishes, asphalt chunks, and 'nasty black dirt'. The process demonstrates the use of heavy machinery, specifically an excavator with various attachments (grapple, vibratory plate compactor), for breaking down concrete, folding metal pool walls, removing unsuitable fill, and compacting new layers of soil to prevent future settling. Emphasis is placed on careful material handling, appropriate compaction techniques, and the challenges of working with large-scale demolition debris.

[Applause] [Music] if you're just tuning in another contractor had started this project and used this customers backyard as a dumping ground we found a satellite dish asphalt chunks the pool removal equipment was all pushed into the pool bottom and he was starting to cover it up with nasty black dirt we got the call and came in and now we've got to start fixing it so today we're gonna finish rooting around in the bottom to see what else is buried down there and start popping concrete chunks [Music] we're taught you're talking about the other half alright really [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] what he's doing right now is he's taking the good dirt he's gonna spread this out then left [Music] the compression the back too much compaction is no better than not enough see what he's doing by hitting we got to be careful how hard you the next debater every time he hits putting pressure on the seals the hydraulic sealed right here this right [Music] now you will hear some guys tell you that you can hit a lot harder with the boom of an excavator when you're compacting and they're right but those are the same guys that aren't usually the ones paying the price on installing new seals on the booms of your excavator after they popped Jim's pulling up the metal on the site kind of like folding up the sheets they go on your bed because he we can fit more in a truck that way until you crunch it up crunch it up the wrong thing [Music] you kind of watch that one Griffen power sure try the other one behind ya [Music] [Applause] [Music] now you might have heard tim saying that the thumb feels backwards to them that's because we've actually got the hydraulic hoses routed the wrong way we've got to pull them apart and reroute them so that as you rotate the grapple to the left it actually goes to the left right now it's totally backwards which probably works out fine for Tim since he's one of those goofy left-handed people anyway into one mode so you'll see that they're bringing dirt in even while the pool is still in place and it's a little bit tricky but once you know what you're doing you can get away with it so what we do is we just fill up the bottom of the swimming pool enough that we have a very safe stable working area for the excavator and other equipment to get down into the pool bottom once we've got it stabilized then we start routing through and pulling out all of the debris around it and underneath it so sometimes we take one step forward and two steps backwards before we can take three steps forward it sounds goofy but it is what it is [Music] [Applause] [Music] some of the concrete stays but some of the concrete goes and before we can tear too far into it we've got to make sure we've got all of the saw cuts made so that the concrete that stays is clearly separated from the concrete that goes once we have that line defined then we can start grabbing bigger chunks now nice big chunks of concrete are easy to hollow unless they're too big to manage so even the bigger chunks of concrete still have to be broken down into bite-sized pieces and so that they can easily fit through the gate into the dump truck and get delivered out to the recycling facility so the big chunks got to become smaller chunks to get gone [Music] alright guys that's all we got for you today but on the next video coming out in this series we're gonna be doing a lot of loading hauling and then we've got one massive chunk of concrete that's but up tight right next to all of the concrete that we've got to leave behind and we're gonna carefully try to peel that apart on the next video in this series stick around because it's coming right at you down the pipe [Music] god bless you guys go get them and we will see you on the next video [Music]
