What happens here
This video is a construction vlog detailing various aspects of heavy equipment operation, site preparation, and the construction of a retaining wall using concrete blocks. It showcases the challenges faced by contractors, the tools and machinery used, and the specific techniques involved in building a durable retaining wall. Notably, this video does not cover standard wall framing using lumber, but rather focuses on earthwork, masonry, and equipment management within a general construction context.

(13,193 characters)all right you guys we're back and we've got one more video coming down the pipeline but today it's all about the problems and issues the real world struggles that we face now i know there's some channels out there that they want to look good and so you never really get to see what happens behind the scenes but i'm not that guy i want to actually share with you the real struggles that we as contractors face plus some of the cool tools that we use and why we use them our big packer super dead in the water we were able to kind of limp it along for a couple of days but now she is cooked and uh we don't really have quite the equipment to get that out of there that asb will probably do it but we shall see so now this packer is really top heavy it doesn't have a good center of balance what he's going to do is he's going to try and tip it back so he can get in there with the bucket and the problem is if he tips it too much it will just keep going and right here it's not the end of the world if it tips over into the dirt but when we dump it onto the trailer or i mean gently set it down onto the trailer we got to be super careful because it will go off the trailer and into the street upside down and really cause some damage to the machine and also the street itself that way [Music] that's a twenty thousand dollar machine when i bought it brand new about ten years ago is twenty thousand i don't know what they're worth now i'm gonna guess maybe thirty i don't know but the thing with this machine is it's got dual drums so both the front and back drums compact evenly and it's remote control so we don't have to sit on it we don't have to walk behind it we can stand safely to the side so this has been our go-to piece of equipment on a lot of our retaining wall projects in fact as far as packers go i don't think we have anything that we prefer more than this when we can get it into place i don't know what chicken wing is doing he's got his arm and a sling t-rex arm alex that asb can handle so much like it doesn't even tip it should get it should get back at heavy right there nothing i move six foot boulders not a joke if you guys haven't seen that video i moved monster sized boulders with that asb that i never imagined you should have been able to handle it's just like a charm love that machine and it's got that mac series cab so it's like you're in a glass bubble you can see everything in there that max series cab is legitimately the best visibility of any cab we've ever had on any skid loader ever and look at the fat wide tracks and it's got this really long wheelbase which just makes this machine won't stick to the ground this is where he's got to be careful so if he pulls that too much that machine will just keep going and it doesn't take nothing but a moment just a moment if that asv jerks too much or tim wiggles the controls the wrong way it'll just keep going now knowing tim he's super technical and he wants to nail this right in the dead center of the trailer to make sure that as we're going down the road he's got good balance on it that's gonna be pretty close yeah that's gonna be pretty damn close yes you don't have too much more he's got maybe a foot if this thing flips on its side here we are easy as that all right i got a box from stan he called me last night got a box for you not gonna tell you what it is i think the tape's giving it away these bad boys right here the shocks blades blades are direct these are my favorite blades right here yep good stuff let's see we've got [Music] sweet because i am on my last one of those and what else did we get oh nice okay so these are my favorite blades for the smaller saw the hydro forged ah these ones are really good oh we got a bunch of stuff in here got a fat stack of those which is awesome what are these oh dang circular saw all right all right see that was all yep circular oh what are these little guys oh cute for the grinders they said i was on last one of these and i got one more of those shout out to those blades direct guys thank you keep doing what you're doing now in full disclosure blades direct sent us that box of blades and didn't ask them to do it they didn't ask me to show them but the reason they send them to me is because also in full disclosure i have probably bought tens of thousands of dollars in blades from them in the past before i was ever on youtube i was a die hard customer of theirs and what i would do is i would buy these 12-pack bundles that they sell and i'd get a free chop saw and about the time i wore through those 12 blades the chop saw would be fried because chop sauce fry out and you're gonna see it they fry out fast um and they just wear out and things break on them this mm4 series they got like a blower and the cutoff saw and some other stuff but they run off of gas there's just regular not mixed gas kind of funny thing is is we got uh blaine made the trip down the stands to grab uh uh what was it two steals that we had you know for the actual backup saw one of them had the busted like frame on it so it was just not cutting all flopping around and then the other one the arm was bent on it so the blades wasn't spinning so we're using this long story short but we need a new blade on it so we're going to do that real quick and then obviously you're changing these they're directional a lot of the times they got you know a little arrow on them these ones that's on the on the sticker uh you know if you're not using one of these and you're changing a blade sometimes they'll have it you know up here and whatnot ah that's one that's gonna need that little adapter piece now this isn't a two-stroke saw this is actually runs on pure gas and this is one of those few saws that you can flip all the way upside down and it'll still run i don't know why they have it as a backup to a backup i think it's a pretty good saw right out of the gate no mixed fuel to mess with but we broke both of our steel saws this summer already tim bought a big steel ts i don't know it's a monster one right and then we had another steal and both of them are shot sam the only reason our husqvarna still works is because sam babies it like it's his own grandchild or something so i don't get it he loves that saw then i really like these sure cans honestly bro anybody that's ever used them will tell you that they're the best gas can you can buy that's nice because you know anymore all these gas cans got all those crazy safety features on because kids start kept burning themselves up but there's a real nice nice and easy to use do it one hand do all sorts of stuff all right per baby perk look at that this is the back up to the back up to the back up i think we still have one more backup saw left before we end up buying some more saws okay so about that stock it's been used like twice so that thing's been sitting for almost three years full tank of gas in there dump the gas out new one in or report new stuff in popped right up it'll be interesting to see if they keep using it i know sam is in love with this husqvarna but we'll see if he keeps using it all right so back to this retaining while we're building you see how they flip that grid up that's an important thing that we can sack these four high and i think sam goes into that a little bit and what we do is we'll pack up to that grid layer lay that grid down and then continue to pack on top of it but that's how you can speed up production so you could we go from laying block to back filling to laying block to backfilling and vice versa yeah remember guys slow smooth smooth as fast um so i gotta cut one for here i gotta cut one for there and then we'll have two more sets of cuts and we'll be caught up with those guys and we can backfill and all that kind of stuff reverse lock says with these blocks that you can go you can stack four courses out of the ground before you need a backfill and that's because if you go much more than that the extra weight will start tipping backwards on it that's not not something that you want to have happen so the reason the extra weight is starts tipping backwards is because the blocks have an automatic setback so if you got a block here the next block if this is the wall going this way it sets back automatically blaine hurt himself hopefully not too bad but he's going to be out for a couple of days and with that being said look at who came crawling out of his cave look at that who's that who's that right there anyways he came crawling out of the cave which is his office coming out so tim took over on the retaining wall project because blaine hurt himself and i took over on the pool demo project because alex hurt himself and it wouldn't make a difference if they hurt themselves or not we still tim and i both still get out on the job because it's a way to keep your skills fresh we don't need to be on those jobs but we also don't need to become complacent and lose our skill set and lose an understanding of what it takes to complete a project [Music] so what we got going on over here is we're going to be stepping up we're going to be stepping up really quick because this is where yeah i mean we're working on a hill and it gets real steep up through here so i'm going to get all this based out step ups in and get caught up to course well joey and tim are over there working on that mess of a corner and getting all the base in and stuff over there so then uh hopefully we can get all the all the base or most of the base in by the end of the day and then we can just be building and bag filling for the majority of the day tomorrow but we shall see so got a little bit i need to try to keep at least a little bit in the back of the truck because you know you never know and it's saving us a trip up to the hardware store hopefully it's enough i don't think it's gonna be super low you know so much stuff that blaine picked it up and uh he had kind of topped this off so we bring the mini x out well the mini x has been out but can't figure out when it's low on hydraulic fluid so when you go to fill it up you got to make sure that all of your hydraulics are in an exact certain position otherwise you can't read the level right so what you see joey or sam doing down on the side is there's a little dial and they're eyeballing that dial and as tim's feeling it they're trying to see that fluid come right to the center of that dial [Music] i'm gonna check it [Music] and we're not getting a reading so tim wants to see if it's get draining out or if it's going into the potentially into somewhere where it's not supposed to be going so he wants to make sure that oil is going in just right below it well let's add some more then i just dump the rest of this in here should start seeing it pretty soon coming up on there oh do i got the back thing dropped yep oh in there now seeing it at all oh [Music] now make sure you guys hit that subscribe button because on the very next video coming out tomorrow tomorrow i love you tomorrow it's only a day away i promise to never do that again we're wrapping this job completely up and then we're beginning to dive into our pavers series and we're going to be putting a really cool paper patio on the same project and we're not going to interrupt the force you will be able to watch it go from start to completion i promise you because i know that's annoying i scan it and i won't do that to you guys again it's over six feet from the back of the block yep we're six at we'll put it put that on six right there yup that's where we're at all right lay it out [Music] so you got to make sure when you lay that grid out you've got it flat you can't have it do it in the washboard it can't look like this that grid's important that that grid is laid out it's real extremely flat and it's not going up at an angle it doesn't have a weird funky tail unless you've planned to have that tail into the design and that is something that it's kind of an advanced principle so i don't want you guys to just go out and think you can put and i mean a tail if your grid is laying flat and then the back of the grid if this is the face the block you don't want to have your grid like this and call that six foot unless you do it intentionally and you have the engineer's approval and there's a reason why you're putting that tail then otherwise that grid is supposed to lay completely flat and it's not supposed to have any weird angles like this or like that or anything like that and then tomorrow you guys we wrap this project up i hope you enjoyed this series it was a pain in the butt to do big thanks to dan the man dan the editing man for busting his butt to get this out to you big thanks to sam amazing job on the camera work on this one sam big thanks to the entire team for pulling this whole project together and a big thanks goes out to you my audience because i'll tell you right now i have the best audience in the whole world so thank you to all of you guys for sticking along for the ride hope you enjoyed this one thumbs up goes a long way and i'll see you tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow i love it wait a minute i made a promise not to sing to you sorry see you tomorrow
