Applying Stone Veneer and Grouting
At 0:14 in
One of my most fun 'special projects' to date!!
What happens here
After the concrete has fully cured and the forms are removed, begin the process of applying the stone veneer. First, lay out your irregular, flat stone pieces on a large mat or flat surface to plan your desired pattern and ensure a good fit. This dry-fit step allows you to select and pre-cut pieces as needed. Once satisfied with the layout, mix your mortar or adhesive, such as the product seen in the blue Lowe's bucket, according to its instructions. Apply a generous layer of mortar to the back of each stone piece and firmly press it onto the concrete fire pit structure. Work your way around the fire pit, ensuring the stones are tightly set and leaving consistent gaps for grouting. After all stones are placed and the mortar has begun to set, use a pointing trowel or grout bag to fill the gaps between the stones with mortar, creating a clean and finished look. Carefully wipe away any excess mortar from the stone faces with a damp sponge before it fully hardens.
Goal: Finish the fire pit exterior with decorative stone veneer.
