My Favorite New Way To Secure A Hose Bib

What happens here

Unpack the new frost-proof hose bib (e.g., Arrowhead Brass 456-10LF, 12-inch, lead-free). Note its longer length compared to the old one, which is essential for proper frost protection. Attach a plastic bevel washer to the hose bib, ensuring it creates a downward slope for drainage when installed. For the internal connection, which will be a Type A PEX adapter, apply Teflon tape (clockwise, leaving the first thread clear) to the male threads of the hose bib's PEX connection. Follow this with a generous application of pipe dope (e.g., Megalock) using its integrated brush, ensuring good coverage without excess on the first thread. Then, hand-thread the female Type A PEX adapter onto the hose bib's male threads and use adjustable wrenches or pliers to securely tighten it. Always use a backup wrench to prevent twisting the hose bib body.

Goal: Prepare the new frost-proof hose bib for installation by adding a drainage bevel washer, applying Teflon tape, and pipe dope to the threaded adapter.
