Morgan-McClure X Pipe Exhaust Sound Test: "Stock" LS Swap Longtube Headers (Science of Sound Pt1)

What happens here

The presenter introduces the project: modifying the existing exhaust system on his Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which has a 6.2-liter LS engine with an LSA supercharger and a Brian Tooley Stage 3 camshaft. He wants to achieve a specific race car sound, akin to an "IndyCar" or "turbocharged" sound, which his current Dr. Gas "boom tube" exhaust with Speed Engineering LS swap headers (not equal length) is failing to deliver. He explains the desire to move away from the current LS sound to a more unique, classic NASCAR-like tone.

Goal: Understand the project's objective and the characteristics of the current setup.

today we're going to be doing some exhaust work last video we had all kinds of boom tubes sitting on the floor we went over and we talked about how they worked and what they should sound like and had you guys vote on which one you wanted to see tested on the monte carlo first and to no surprise you all picked number four which was this one right here this is from a 2001 morgan mcclare super speedway car you know the famous kodak car the one everybody knows from sterling marlin back in was at 94.95 when he came out of daytona and all the others i got things sounds like an indycar it sounds turbocharged all that stuff this is why this is a real one came off one of those cars we're gonna figure out how to connect it to the 6.2 liter ls engine in ralph here it's got an lsa supercharger on it this is actually the original engine from the escalade i think it's about 10.25 to 1 compression if i recall correctly it's got a brian thule positive displacement stage 3 cam in it which does not have a lot of overlap unlike a naturally aspirated stock car engine would this cam doesn't have a whole lot of popcorn at idle so it won't make the right sounds at idle you know under load with boost the dynamic compression goes up it could make similar sounds it's that the only reason why it may not is the headers the headers are not these are not equal length primaries they're not tri-wide collectors they're not even merge collectors they're just the regular old run-of-the-mill speed engineering ls swap headers with the regular stamped collector and a little spike in the in the middle you can tell that you know the primary up here is a heck of a lot longer than that one that's going to jumble up the sound waves are not going to converge at the same way that a true equal length or close to equal length try y header would but we're going to connect this exhaust to it anyway and see what it does if it doesn't make the right noises we will change the headers around see how that works out the exhaust on here right now is just the the out of the box dr gas boom tube system and not a huge fan of the way it sounds it sounds too much you know just like an ls car it doesn't really have that howl and i suspect it because one the mismatch of length in the headers you can see how much farther back this collector is than that one so the distance from the merge point of the exhaust pulses to the x itself is different on both sides so it's it's not gonna you know it's not zippering the sound…
